Title: Windows Installer
Post by: shrimps on July 07, 2008, 01:31:48 PM
Hi, my name is aJ. I have windows XP Media Center.

When ever I run a program or my computer boots and programs are auto started my windows installer keeps trying to install certain programs such as Unload, PSPrinters08. I can't install them or cancel they just keep coming up. Then when they do finally go away It will come up again after I run another program.

I'll take screen shots of what happens so it's easier to understand.

This is what I get when the bar finishes loading:

This is when I hit OK:

This is when I hit Cancel:

As you can see I can't solve the problem by saying yes or no, it just keep coming up when I launch programs. I can't find these programs psprinters08, or unload anywhere on my computer.

So if I could please get some assistance on this issue I would greatly appreciate it.

You may need to repair the Windows installer.

Re-register MsiExec
No visible change will take place. Try to install/uninstall again.

If this method fails, you will need to reinstall the Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI)
Windows Installer 3.1 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=889482fc-5f56-4a38-b838-de776fd4138c&displaylang=en)
Windows Installer 4.5 (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5969.html)

I did this:
You may need to repair the Windows installer.

Re-register MsiExec
  • Go to Start > Run
  • Type or Copy and Paste the following:
    • MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER then hit enter.
  • Then again Start > Run
  • Now type or Copy and Paste the following:
    • MSIEXEC /REGSERVER then hit enter.
No visible change will take place. Try to install/uninstall again.

I also did this, installed Windows Installer 3.1 and it still tries to install and gives the same errors.
If this method fails, you will need to reinstall the Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI)
