You will need to upload the picture to a file hosting website like Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com)

I use www.fileupyours.com

Then you link the file to your signature

Code: [Select]

Okay so all I need to do is: Place the scene on the screen; press "Print Screen;  then...Is there an easy way to find out where the photo is? I know that I'll need to browse to find it. But I always get lost by then. We can avoid my posting again if you step me through this.

Thanks

Pushing "Print Screen" will not save the picture of your desktop.  It copies the picture to your clipboard.  To save the picture, go to "Paint" in your start menu, click edit in paint's menu bar and click "Paste."  Now save the file wherever you want.

With MSPaint, you can resize the image or cuts parts out so you can post a screenshot of a specific area in the picture.

shift+alt+s also posts reply from the Reply window.

When you were saying that the shortcut (shift+alt+p/s)  didn't work for you, were you referring to cursor placement?

Okay, you're talking about cursor placement - shift+alt+p/s is the FF shortcut to the alt+s/p that works, apparently, in IE.
Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: Broni on July 12, 2008, 02:38:32 PM
I just tried IE tab, and alt+s/p tries to post, as well.
Title: Re: Screen Shots

Anywho, I think Nathan should implement it into board code.

Obviously, I agree.

This board is one of the easiest to interact with that I've come across - I just thought that the cursor placement idea would be another plus (sure, albeit, small) for CH. For example, go to log-in at Bleeping Computer and you get a 'too busy,' obnoxious screen (IMO) and the cursor isn't in the User Name box. Compare to CH - nice, clean screen, cursor ready to go. I think the cursor placement in the Reply screen would be an 'improvement.'
Title: Re: Screen Shots
Post by: drmsucks on July 12, 2008, 02:56:07 PM
I just tried IE tab, and alt+s/p tries to post, as well.

Right - Here's the source of the confusion - if you look carefully at the Reply screen, at the bottom, there are shortcuts posted - alt+s, alt+p, to post or preview, respectively.

In my post about placing the cursor in the Reply screen, Carbon said that it would be nice if the above shortcuts were also fixed. Calum said that the shortcts don't work in FF but did in IE. I then determined that adding the 'shift' key allowed the "save/preview' shortcuts to work in FF.

The cursor placement hasn't been worked out yet, other than the Tab-Tab, which Calum mentioned.

I was curious as to why the shift+alt+p/s didn't 'work' for you when it did for Carbon and me - now I know!

How to take a screen shot
  • Open up your Web Browser.
  • Or from the desktop. (for desktop screenshots)
  • Look on your keyboard and there should be a button (usually in the top right corner) that reads PrtSc or Print Screen, press that button.
  • Once the PrtSc button is pressed, Open up Microsoft Paint.
    • Click Start
    • Click Run
    • Type in MSpaint
    • Press Ok.
  • Once Paint is open
  • On the Menu bar click Edit > Paste
  • On the menu bar click File > Save as...
  • Choose the Save as type click the drop arrow, and choose Jpeg
  • Choose the save to location as the Desktop.
  • The click Save.

Hi Guys, thanks for all thehelp. I think i'll try this one if no-one finds anything objectionable about it.  What I want to do is load a site avatar and most of them these day want you to have a picture up before you can load the site avatar. So I'm guessing this will work. Dunno however,

So now I think I may need to know how to use photo bucket. By the way, Windows Vista has a gadget called Snipet or something that works with screen shots. Can I follow EF's advice and bypass it?

One more thing, please. What is RSS and how does it work and do you need a specific program for it to work?

Thanks

From the File menu in Paint, choose Save As and pick the location where you want to save the file.

And, yes, you can use the Vista Snipping Tool to "take a screen shot."

Hi All, sorry I took so long getting back. I was busy working for My Idol...

Okay so I have taken the shot and I guess it's right I reg. at ImageShack and I guess uploaded the print correctly because there is the image on the page but now I need further instructions to correctly post it on a site as an avatar. Then I'll be able to choose an avatar from the site.

SO I am on the ImageShack page with a small photo in the upper left corner with Tags I guess on the right of it.

Help please and thanks...

Oh, an avatar?

If the picture is on the computer, you should be able to browse for the picture and upload it on the forums.

Carbon, that didn't help me at all. I still don't know how to move this picture from the imageshack page to the site where I want the avatar.

The picture on the Imageshack page has  Images:1..1/1 on the top and bottom of it and on the right side are 6 Clicks to either: Share It, Image Details, Delete, Make Private, Edit Image, Make Glitttery...

On the page, right click the code next to "Direct" and left click "Copy".

If that does not work, highlight the following code.
Code: [Select]
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/1026/53593636hw5.jpgNow press "ctrl" and "c" on your keyboard at the same time.  (Pressing "ctrl" and "c" will copy the code.)

Once you have the code copied, paste it into whatever site you want.
Example: If you wanted to use the image here, put the code where the red arrow is pointing.

Before I tackle that, does the image appear that it needs to be smaller. Don't most sites use the same size images for avatars. About the size as this site. I thought I clicked the smallest size offered to me 100x75..

Oh and so when I'm ready to place that in a site all I need to do is place the site's address in the URL?

Hi guys, I just want to thank you all for the help on the screen shots. I did manage to get something up now I just need to refine the technique. One of the site actually did a self-taught avatar this week so I used it. Now I'm learning to transpose the shots from forum to forum. fingers crossed.

Btw guys and dolls, listen to Vh1 at 9 in the morning, if they play David Archuleta as the write-in song, that's who my avatar is for.  And I'm asking you guys to support this young man who has the most exquisite voice you'll ever hear, even though he sing with a vocal chord impediment. Buy his record breaking single and video "CRUSH" #1 on iTunes and his album when it drops 11.11.08. The album is self-titled David Archuleta and is available on Amazon for 9.99. If you can't afford the single or the video or the album they are all being gifted by the Archies fan bases just follow the link below.I promise you'll love him.

I just want to say that me and my friend have been experimenting with paint, and I must say, that when you have taken a screenshot, It's better to use the PNG format, because it saves the image in higher quality and does not mess up the colors (like it sometimes does).
Thats at least what the results were when I was using XP (ahh, the good ol' days). Everything was confirmed after I told it to some other guys I know, and they sayd that it works on their PC's too...

PNG's also have a reduced filesize, which is good for websites if you want to keep the quality and detail of the picture.

I put the pic up as an avatar but no-one told me I would need to crop it. So it is up as it is in here only smaller.

So, is there an easier way to do avatars? I want to change that picture to something else. Must every avatar first go through a photo bucket?

You can upload it directly to the forums.

You can upload it directly to the forums.

Okay. But, Saying that I can upload directly to a site doesn't help without telling me how.

I foolishly I guess, thought that if I just placed the address of the picture (url) in the browser window and clicked Browse the picture would upload. Hmm, wrong. nothing happened. Okay, stop lol... everyone has to start somewhere.

Also, CD didn't mention how to crop a shot.

Do you mean Crop the picture or reduce its size?

Either way, MS Paint can do all this.

If you want, I can explain it.

I meant "Crop the Picture". The size was reduced in ImageShack. The picture on page 5 of thie thread is what is up as my avatar in one site. In another site they have device that allows you to put up avatars and crop them. Yeah in "FanBlast 4 David Archuleta" they did a Gravatar during the week that alllowed members to put up avatars. They even had a Dr. Gravatar to help us if we had trouble. so now nearly all of us in the site have avatars.

Okay, will I also be able to crop that picture that's already on my desktop or should i do an entirely new pic?

Because there is another pic I really want to use. What I want is to just be able to input an address and reset the avatar.

From what it looks like in your picture on Page 5, it seems you started with a picture in MS Word so I'll start there too.

In this screenshot, I have a picture in Microsoft Word. Just follow the instructions.

Note: Modifying images so it doesn't keep increasing my bandwith usage from my filehosting site.
Code: [Select]

Now click on the Select Tool up at the top left (it looks like a rectangle).

Make a box around the entire picture and then click and hold the picture and drag it up and to the left to where you want to crop it.

Click on the very end of the Paint Sheet and drag it up.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

I'm gonna take a close look at your steps however, I don't know that I have MSWORD unless it came as a program on the computer. I never installed it. I know I never installed Office. There are things I hadn't intended to do with this girl. That picture is in my Favorites, I brought it up to the screen and did the print screenshot key stroke .

Also, I need to go do so work in HeyNielsen. for David. Thanks CD. I'll post back when I have had time to check this out. I do appreciate your time, but you know that.

Hey guys the "CRUSH" video is playing on Vh1 this morning so I hope you all check it out today. It's just played at 9 so it prolly won't rotate around until around10:30 or 11.  I'd love to read what you think of his video for "CRUSH" and I might just use your comment as an Opinion in HeyNielsen.Com.

You don't need MS Word for those steps. Just get the image into Paint. ;)

Good Luck.

Hi,

I finally got around to trying the cropping. So I brought up msword in the run program. But i initially tried to crop the photo from mspaint. I managed to get to the part where you drag the photo to the upper left. I did those but now I have the photo and the rest of the trimmings on the page. Maybe I should start over and do this  from the screen shot.  So there's no way to just place the url of a picture in the browse window and capture that pic? Must the picture always be from a photobucket first?

You can attach the picture in your next post if you click (http://www.computerhope.com/forum/Themes/classic/images/english/reply.gif) and then Additional Options under the text-box.

I'm wondering if i can load it. I have so much on my new computer I think it's about all used up.

About your last post the prompts after reply, did you want me to do something with one of the prompts in the tags box? My eyes are truly red and I need to medicate them so I'm out. Thanks Carbon, You're a gem.

Hi guys,

Sorry to be away so long. I have cropped that image and I have it in ImageShack in the browse window. What I need is guidance from here to make sure I do everything right.

I am first looking at TAGS, what are they and do I need to do anything with it. I want to use this image as an AVATAR.

Thanks

BTW, When I highlighted the image in the "PICTURES" folder and dragged it to the AOL page top I got "AOL Picture Editor". It allows me to Brighten the pic, remove color, turn it, crop it, red-ee it. So, I used that to do the editting then Saved it.  Did I do good.  :-\

My image is stuck somewhere in limbo. I can't get it on my desk top or anywhere else. When I try I get a pic of a screen saver type of art.

http://my.imageshack.us/v_images.php

I'm trying to set the pic on the left on the desk or in a folder but It comes out as something totally different.

So you have it uploaded to ImageShack?

You don't need to do anything with the tags, they are just to help you if you are searching for a particular picture... :)

Do you mean an avatar on this forum? Go to your profile (http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?action=profile) and then Forum Profile Information.

Now, go into ImageShack, click the image you want, (it should open) and click on the field "IMG code"...

Now go back to your profile, and check the icon "I have my own pic:", and press CTRL+V, and the URL of the picture should be in the box... Now just save your settings.

Any luck? :)

No KPac, the image isn't for here. I want to post it in a few site but that post is pretty much defunct as Ihit the host it button last night. And now I want to first place it on the desk or in pictures or documents or something.
Please focus on the post following that one.
