Okay, I've had some problems with my laptop's touchpad recently.
First, I noticed some messages saying that the computer detected another pointing device and the advanced features of my touchpad wouldn't be working properly. I found this strange though, because I've been using the USB mouse for a long time before this happened. Anyway, the touchpad still worked fine after that message.
Next, sometimes my touchpad stopped working. When I turned on the computer and tried to move the pointer around with my touchpad, nothing happened. I also checked the Control Panel but everything was working properly (at least the Control Panel said so ::)). Then I tried restarting my computer, and the touchpad worked again. Once even the keyboard stopped working.
But now, the touchpad has stopped working completely. Even restarting my computer didn't help.
I am using a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop, operating system is Windows XP Professional (SP1).
Please tell me how to fix the problem, thank you!

Try the Lenovo Website here and enter your laptop make and model:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?..... (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true)

It's a Lenovo ThinkPad T60p, type 2008, Model 83M.

Choose your Operating System and press Continue. I'm sure you could have done it though...

I tried what the guide said, and the Touchpad worked again...
I'm not sure if this was a coincidence or not, since I didn't change any of the settings... :-\
So I'll just have to wait and see if this works out.
Still, thanks guys :)

Anyu particular reason you never updated your OS to SP2? At this point, I suggest going directly to SP3 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloadS/details.aspx?familyid=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en).

Touchpad still doesn't work!
I turned on my computer today and found out that the Touchpad still didn't work...
Any other solutions? :-\
-
Try this. I got in in a search:
http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T_Series_Thinkpads&message.id=4991
-
But there are no solutions on that thread... :(
-
Sorry, I guess I should probably have looked at it first....
I just cant understand what could be causing it.
Did you contact Lenovo about it?
-
No, I didn't...
I wanted to ask about it on here first.
-
I'd say that would be your best bet.
You might get a replacement or something.
Good luck. ;)

@fanh: Have you installed updated drivers for the Touchpad? Does the Touchpad work if you remove the USB mouse adapter?
-
... I don't know about any updates ... :(
And no, the Touchpad doesn't work when I remove the USB mouse adapter...
-
Have you checked the Touchpad in Device Manager? Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager, look for your Touchpad, is it properly configured? Any yellow exclamation marks?
-
The Touchpad shows up, and no exclamation marks.
-
I'm not sure but some laptops have a feature (a button) that disables the touch pad. Do you think this may be the case here?

I'm out of ideas other than, as previously suggested, pursue with OEM.
Best of luck!

Ya, mine has that feature. I turn it off when I'm playing games and using a mouse (in case I hit off it and shoot someone!). I have an "FN" button beside the Windows Start button, and when I press it, a menu comes down at the top of the screen. Here I can disable and enable the touchpad. Its a Toshiba Satellite.

No, I don't think so, since sometimes the Touchpad works and sometimes it doesn't, and I didn't press any button at all...

Is the laptop under warranty?
Suggest that you get help from Lenovo and RMA laptop, if possible,
