Title: No Signal Video Card Problem
Post by: mdschm2 on August 08, 2008, 01:16:37 PM
I'm having a ton of trouble with my video card(s). One day, my computer is working fine. The next day, I turn it on and everything starts up but there is no signal to the monitor. I tried a different monitor (and different cables) and still have the same issue. I have tested the monitors and cables on a different computer and they work fine.

I took it to the IT guy where I work and he checked the video card (which is an nVidia GeForce 7500LE). He recommended using some compressed air to clear it out, and if that didn't work, the card was probably dead. I tried the compressed air and still had the same issue.

I ordered a replacement card (an EVGA e-GeForce 8600GT) and am still having the same issue. I've tried every possible combination of driver installation/uninstallation. I'm running Windows XP. I know the computer is running fine, because the Motherboard has a TV out connection that still works and that is how I'm able to do driver installs and such. But no luck out of any video card.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm about to go unplug the RAM and run it one stick at a time to see if that helps. Otherwise I'm lost.

Thanks.

Does that card have a ribbon to the tv out from the card? I would say {guessing} you have a bad card. Can you get hold of a pci card for testing purpose?

Just to clarify, which card are you guessing is bad? The old card, nor the new card, has a ribbon that connects to the TV out. From the info you've gathered, are you guessing the new card is also faulty?

Normally when you get no signal to monitor the problem lies at the v card ,power supply, or board. When you turn on PC can you get into BIOS?Are you getting any beeps?

I can do everything with the PC (BIOS, OS setup, safe mode, etc) as long as it is connected to the TV via the TV out port on the motherboard itself. I don't get any beeps at post, and everything boots properly. If I take the new card our and reseat it, it will recognize that new hardware is installed, but when I install the drivers, nothing changes. I was under the assumption that the new v card would work right out of the box, whether or not the drives were installed. Like I said, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers both with the card installed and with it out, but nothing seems to work. And the computer acts like nothing is out of the ordinary. I'm getting ready to shove the thing out a window.

I'm not entirely sure which ribbon you are referring to. On the old card, there was a ribbon that connected the VGA port to the card itself. However, I wasn't using this port, I was using the DVI port. On the new card, there is no VGA port, and both DVI ports are soldered directly to the PCB.

As an update, I reinstalled windows. Nothing changed, the only way I can see what's going on is still through the S-Video TV-OUT port on the motherboard.

Hi. I am having the same problem for 2 years almost, with my video card. And I've been browsing internet, searching forums for solutions, nothing found. I have managed to discover one "solution" at least, which works well on me and I recommend it to you. Just switch the monitor off and on, and this should do the trick. At least, it works with my PC. All best
