Title: Firefox won't load forums.
Post by: Lunalesca on August 09, 2008, 03:57:29 PM
It was working fine this morning, but all of sudden when I click on home, the site didn't want to load. The same thing happens to IE. It won't load any of the InvisionFree sites, but it works for other sites.

What about now?

Is it possible they were updating the site?

It started working again, last night, but since the computer restarted, it's not working. And no, it wasn't updating.

The same thing happens. I cleared all files, and it still does the same thing.

This is a snippet from here: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,62253.0.html

Try this.

Download and Install
CCleaner (http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,57879.0.html).
When it is installed, run it and make sure the following checkboxes are checked.
Internet Explorer --> Temporary Files
Internet Explorer --> Cookies (optional)
Mozilla Firefox --> Internet Cache
Mozilla Firefox --> Cookies (optional)
System --> Temporary Files
System --> Empty Recycling Bin (optional but recommended if low on disk space)
You can check whatever else you want but you should know that whatever you check will be unrecoverable.
When you are done, Run the Cleaner.

I have tried that, but none of them doesn't work. Even the Google search doesn't work.

What does work?

You don't happen to be connected but with no internet access, do you?

I can access some sites, but I can't access other sites, like Google search and the link I gave away. Now even MSN messenger doesn't work because of a host file.

I was just about to suggest the host file.

What Operating System is this? (windows version)

Post a copy of your hosts file...

Also are you running a firewall ? ?
If so which one ?

Where can I get the file? And I don't have a Firewall installed.

Host file can usually be found in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\

The file is called Hosts with no extension.
You can open it by opening Windows Notepad and drag the file into Notepad.

Your computer is infected.
Then, there is no antivirus present - no go!
Download, and install one of these:
- Avira free antivirus: http://www.free-av.com/en/download/index.html
- Avast! free antivirus: http://filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/
Update, and run full scan.

Make sure, Windows firewall is on.
