I have a 500GB External hard drive and I am trying to partition it so I can use half of it for time machine and I want to setup the other half so it will work on both Mac and PC.
I was reading that a FAT32 system doesn't support files over 4GB which I do not like.
Time machine is important, for obvious reasons. The Mac/PC side of the hard drive needs to be connected to multiple computers, so I'm trying to do it without having to install programs on any of these computers, since most of them are for work.
I have been trying to do it in disk utility, but I keep getting this error.
Please help.

What type of partition are you making it? It sounds like you are going with a "FAT" partition. Is that correct?
