Title: sound card off after system restore?

I had to do a system restore on a HP computer with XP, after coming back to life the computer claimed "no sound device" yet the sound card was listed in devices, I have reinstalled the drivers, followed all trouble shooting steps and have just recently installed a brand new sound card to no avail. Any help?

If you go to your Sound Card Manufacturers website, look for the appropriate drivers and completely reinstall them.
See how that goes.
