Welcome to ComputerHOpe.
We need more information, Please look here. (http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,33586.html)

im running windows xp media center edition service pack 2
its a pre-made computer, has 488 mb of ram, amd athlon(tm) 64 processor 3800+
2.41 GHz
i just put xp onto it.
i have my ethernet cord plugged into the computer and i cant get online
nothings showing up in the network connections either
i put in a whole new ethernet card and it works fine but still no connection
any ideas of what to do?
-
I went ahead and merged your two topics. ;)
Please keep all replies in this thread.
Anyways, When you plug the ethernet cable into the computer, does it say you're connected?
-
yeah sorry i put it in the wrong section -.-
and no when i put the cord in nothing happens, it doesn't show a connection.
it also says i dont have a internet connection wizard ...
-
What kind of install was it? Clean Windows reinstall? If so, what was the reason?
Did you install motherboard drivers?
-
yeah it was my friends computer and his hard drive was messed up so i put in one of mine from an old computer and just cleared it and put the new xp on it
but during the set up it kept asking for service pack two... and my xp came with three discs but none of them said service pack two
i tried all three discs when it asked and it just continued with the set up
-
Did you format that drive, first?
-
yeah it made me
-
What kind of Windows CD is it? Legit? Full version?
-
yeah it's the full version
its a legit cd bought from a store
and its the media center edition
-
Is your friend computer Media Center PC?
If not, your CDs won't work.
-
Where are his CDs?
-
he brought a pre made computer from like wal-mart
it didnt come with any cd's
and it worked fine everythings on it except for it wont show an internet connection
-
and yeah his computer was media center also
-
If his computer came without any CDs, then most likely it had recovery partition, and it was supposed to be used to restore his computer.
Your CDs are OEM XP version?
I don't understand why installation would ask for SP2. Were all partitions removed before formatting?
-
my friends hard drive had the system restore but it wouldnt work
i kept getting blue screened
and i put media center on it it worked but i basically got a blank screen with a trash can
and the internet wouldnt work either
so i used my old hard drive and put it in and it worked fine except for the part where i dont get internet...

What's the situation in Device Manager? Any errors?
Also...
Download, and install Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html)
Open it, click Computer, then Summary.
In upper menu, go Report>Quick Report-Summary
Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Don't include anything under line Debug - PCI
-
well on my friends computer i ran a dsk repair and it said it did repair some stuff to the hard drive
but when i tried to just boot it, it still wouldn't work
and as for downloading it, unless i can put it on a disc i cant download it on that computer it has no internet
-
It's not clear.
Your friend's computer has his old HD in, or yours?
I understand, you can't download anything, but you can use CD, or flash drive.
What about Device Manager situation?
-
no i took the hard drive out of his computer so its out of it
i put my own hard drive into his computer
so now mines in it
as for the device manager give me a few i gotta go check
-
K.
-
all my "other devices" have yellow questions mark icons besides them, so i'm assuming the drivers are missing for them being the errors i was looking for
-
as for that download it says that it's no longer free
-
That's why, I asked before, if motherboard drivers were installed.
I asked to post Everest report to see what components are there, including motherboard, unless you have an access to the drivers.
-
If you went to my link, THAT Everest version is free. Check again.
-
Don't search for Everest. Go to my link.
-
okay i got it
im downloading it now
-
its gonna be a bit before i post it cuz it wont re copy the text back onto the disc so i'm going to go get a flash drive from a friend
-
OK.
-
sorry about the wait here it is

OK. We're back to square one, since Everest doesn't recognize motherboard, chipset, or processor.
What's the computer brand, and model?
-
okay
the computer is a Compaq, presario sr2013wm
-
Cool, let me poke around...be back in a few
-
alright, thanks ;D
-
Your drivers are here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3300335
Get all drivers from Original Drivers section. The two most important are chipset, and LAN drivers.
NOW...you need to install SP2 before you attempt to install the above drivers (this is what the site says).
You can get SP2 here: http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.html
-
okay ill try it =]
wish meh luck
-
You got it :)
-
i got it to work
thanks so much :)
-
I'm glad to hear it :)
Can you give some more details?
-
like what kind of details O.o?
-
What exactly did you do? Installed drivers? All of them?
-
yeah i installed the service pack two
then i installed all the original drivers except for the sound one because it said it wouldn't work because i need a UAA from microsoft
-
Cool :)
-
do u know how to get sound tho?
i have my speakers set up but im not getting any sound
-
Try here: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/audio/hdaudioddi.mspx
Download is on the right hand side.
You may need to install original driver afterwards, but you'll see how it goes.
-
that was just like a how to guide it didnt have a download for the actual driver
-
Sorry for that...Try here: http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/intel-high-definition-hd-driver.html
-
that one didnt work
-
means?
-
it went through the installation and everything but i still dont have any sound
so i dont think that was the right one that i needed
-
Did you uninstall existing driver, first?
-
no the other one never worked. so i will try to see if it works now
-
it still doesn't work. and neither of the two are installed on the computer
-
and neither of the two are installed on the computer
How do you know? What does Device Manager say about your sound?
-
well i know because no new sub categories appeared under the sound category or anywhere else
and the only one showing up are, Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, and Video Codecs
-
Do you have any errors in Device Manager?
-
yeah two
one says pci device and the other says unknown device
-
i could be wrong but i think this might be it
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3

I haven't read this entire topic, but if that is the exact model of your sound card, no harm in trying it.
