Hello, I'm having some problems with my computer a couple of weeks ago starting up. I timed how long it takes from power on to the desktop screen. "1 hour 17 minutes."
Obviously, this is obscenely long and I was hoping if someone on this site could help me.
But first, you should now the following things.
- I have ran multiple spyware programs multiple times
- I have ran multiple virus programs multiple times
- I've tried disabling start-up programs to a bare minimum
- I cannot boot up my recovery console at the start up screen, because when i do, it does an automatic restart.
- I've deleted all my programs excluding my 100% trusted ones (I.E, Microsoft Word etc)
- I've backed up my important files, so if you're idea involves wiping my data, that's fine.
- I've done system restore up to numerous dates
- Once booted and on the desktop screen, the computer suffers no slowdown whatsoever.
My computer's spec's are:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.20GHz Processor
1024MB RAM
(If you need to know more, ask.)
So, does anyone have any ideas? Keep in mind, while I'm no beginner, I'm not an expert either.
EDIT: Oh yes, I've also tried Safe Mode, no such luck.

Only time I suffered an extended boot - and it was not that long (quite!) - my CPU was being hogged as tho 'some' process was running causing it.

Well, first it goes to the Packard Bell intro screen (Where i can go to my bios, boot devices etc.
Orginaly that took about 10 seconds, now it takes 14 minutes.
Next it goes the Windows XP "Scrolling bar" screen, that takes 41 minutes. Where before it took about 20 seconds.
After that, it goes to a black screen for 5 minutes. Before, literally 3-5 seconds.
Lastly, it goes to the "Welcome Screen", for 16 minutes, then the destop comes on.
Is that what you wanted to know? And to Saviour...
Now all we need is a specialist to read your log. Unfortunately, I'm not the one, but at least you posted it for the right individuals to take a look at.

Thx for the info - yes that was what I was wondering.
However, it does seem from that as tho every stage is extended and right now that leaves me without useful ideas. I had sorta hoped just one stage was itself the real ''hog''.
There are better bains than mine here so hang in there and we'll see what comes along.

From what I can see it isn't a malware problem. You do however have way too many antispyware applications running. Spy Sweeper, Ad-Aware, TeaTimer and the ZoneAlarm security suite.
Disable all but Zone Alarm, and I would just uninstall Ad-Aware. Spy Sweeper, why maybe not the best is far superior to Ad-Aware.

Open Spysweeper click > Options over to the left then > Program Options > Uncheck "load at windows startup"
Over to the left click "shields" and Uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield"

If so, place it in your CD ROM drive and follow the instructions below:- Click on Start > Run and type sfc /scannow then press Enter (note the space between scf and /scannow)
- Let this run undisturbed until the window with the blue progress bar goes away
SFC - Which stands for System File Checker, retrieves the correct version of the file from %Systemroot%\System32\Dllcache or the Windows installation source files, and then replaces the incorrect file.
If you want to see what was replaced, right-click My Computer and click on Manage.
In the new window that appears, expand the Event Viewer (by clicking on the + symbol next to it) and then click on System.

Okay, I've stopped all the programs except for ZoneAlarm. Secondly, I tried the command, but for some reason it says I've got the wrong CD, which is strange because I've used this CD numerous times in the past for Recovery Consoles, XP Installler and such. So I've gone to Manage then systems. There's literally hundred's of "Information" warnings. Around 50 "Error" warnings. And a few "Warning" ones. And that's just for today. Does that sound like the problem?
I can submit a "Print Screen" if you'd like.

As evil said, there is only one visible infection by MyWebSearch, there is no antivirus installed, and there is none of service packs installed.
You, obviously should go ahead, and fix those issues, however, personally, I don't believe, they would mount up to 1 hour 17 minutes boot up.
My vote is for hardware problem, but let's see what's gonna happen with this computer being updated.

What about AVG? That's an anti-virus.
Anyway, SP2 is installing now. Taking a hidously long time. Might have to leave it on overnight.

The fact that the POST takes 14 minutes raises read flags toward hardware- or possibly a defective hard drive...

Well, I've installed SP2. It did load quicker mind, not by much, about 20 minutes.
But wouldn't a Hardware Failure effect the perfomance of the computer while I'm working, not just during start-up?

Let it run to completion.
Remove the XP CD and re-boot.
If this does not show improvement then: Repair Install of XP (http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm)

I tried that, but It just says you got the wrong CD, it's strange, because I've used recovery console and even installed my windows xp on that disk.
I'm going to try and get the Recovery Console working and FIXBOOT. If that doesn't work, I'll just have to do a repair.

What service pack is listed on that XP CD ? ?

Good news, it's all fixed and loading nicely now. The cure was...sadly...SP2. :-[
But thank you for your help people, SP2 would of been the last thing I installed if it wasn't for you people. So thanks. ;)
