I've already checked with Nathan and he stated it was okay to post this...as long as it was here.
So for those interested...here ya go: Volunteers Wanted (http://www.saviourpc.com/volunteers_wanted)
If you feel it's out of line, then please feel free to PM me with your complaints...let's keep it out of the forums, okay?
Thanks for taking a look, at least.

Hey, Saviour...
I think that's a great idea...I'm more than willing to help a friend in need. Just don't tell anyone you know me, okay?
-
Too late, Glitch. Cat's already out of the bag, my friend.
-

Hey Saviour can I be a moderator?
Wow, no beating around the bush.
Is it absolutely necessary to use Wink? I have Flash 8 and have made (so far) 3 fairly long (if completely ridiculous) animations, and basic ActionScript (for making things such as buttons to continue to the next frame, play, etc.)
Also another plus- It's likely to be possible to have more control over size with it as well, fewer bitmaps, I suppose.
What kind of tutorials are you looking for? I could make a simple one that describes the parts of an application window or something.

BC_Programmer...
I'd like to keep the flash tutorials consistent...using Glitch as sort of a "guide" through the whole thing. Keeping them consistent, informative and as quick as possible to load are my main concerns.
drmsucks has already volunteered to critique them...while I value everyone's opinion. So, if anyone wants to critique them...by all means.
They'll be slow in coming...so...just bear with me, as I slowly add more for Vista. Hopefully I can get someone who has XP installed on their system to aid. Calum may be doing that end for me.
I still look forward to anyone who'd like to help.
computerruler...
Thanks, anyway.

If you knew anything about the Saviour PC™ site, you would know that asking within a thread is the wrong approach. Get to know the site...before you ask that sort of question...and at Saviour PC™...requesting to apply for a role is handled through one's profile on the main site...not within the forums.
However...since you've brought it up...and to be as polite as I possibly can...my answer is....a resounding "no, thank you".

I'll experiment in Flash, see if I can get something consistent with Wink's output. If not or it's too much work- I'll just use wink.
What kind of tutorials did you want for XP? Ones that correspond with your Vista tutorials, I suppose?
-
Basically...anything that has to do with the use of XP...keeping it simple...like How-Tos.
Wink is easy to use...it actually takes screenshots whenever you click or use the keyboard. As soon as you finish the capture...and render the frames...it's all good to go...all you have to do is add the images you want...along with the text...then the green navigation arrows.
It will save the swf...the js file...the html file...and also the wink file. Pretty handy. Just takes some getting used to. Especially when it comes to removing/adding frames...or just resizing them.
Let me know if you need some images of Glitch...and I'll send them to you via the email you used when you registered on my forum.
Which reminds me...I have to send them to quaxo...
-
wow, Wink really is easy to use- I had to clean up my desktop (and reduce the resolution).
So far I've got it captured-it's the same "changing the desktop background", just like in yours, except in XP. Which kind of makes it silly, but some people are new to XP, and computers in general, so it doesn't hurt.
If you could send me the same image you used in the first tutorial, that would be ideal.
I'll finish it up, and add the image in later :)
Then I can start making other tuts as well!
-
You got it...thanks!

Check the email you used when you registered at Saviour PC.

K I created a account mind If I help out?
-
Looks like it's time to install Wink.
I would gladly help out, Saviour.
School is out today, so I might as well. :)
-
Hmm, I have it finished, and rendered- but the resulting file is 8MB :-\
Might have to do a little trimming of my frames...
-
All right. Installed and playing around with it.
Not a bad program at all. ;D
-
Thanks, Brian...
-
So do we need the Gltich picture?
-
Yes- I think that all the tutorials, as Steve said, will use Glitch as a "guide".
Size is also a big concern, we want people on slow connections to be able to view them in a timely fashion.
No need to actually have the picture at the time you make it, just remember to leave a spot for him, speech bubbles pointing towards it, and then you can paste him in when you get him.
-
Yep. Now what shall I do.....
-
Yep. Now what shall I do.....
What do you mean?
-
I think he means what his tutorial will be about.
Also, what size are we aiming for? Mine is huge, 4 megabytes.
Any tips for reducing the size? It was 8MB, but I managed to reduce it by half.
-
What type of connection do you have?
Cutting it by 50% is a task in itself. Did you clear your cache and try running it to check load time?
-
It loads in less then a second, but that's local on the HD-
I've managed to reduce it a further MB, so it's around 3MB now- at 10Kb/s it would still take almost 3 minutes.
I'll clear my cache and see how long it takes to load.
It's done otherwise (aside from fixes later on, and size tweaks)
EDIT: after clearing the cache, it loads in less then half a second- on the other hand that is local. I've got a few visual tweaks, such as the Cursor over the items tip Noah suggested for yours, but aside from that I think it's ready.
-
Do me a favor...email the wink file to me...so I can upload it and test load time, as well.
Thanks...
-
Do you mean the SWF, or the WNK file- the WNK file is 18 MB, and hotmail refuses to allow for anything over 10MB.
If the WNK file is necessary, I could use a file sharing site- SWF I can send with not problem.
-
Just send the swf and js files...
I'll upload and test them on the server...send to admin.
Thanks...
-
alright, I'm on it then ;)
-
Saviour Dude Why are you ignoring me?
Can I help out?
-
Yep. Now what shall I do.....
What do you mean?
Just thinking out loud. :P

Is there any way you can compress the file in a zipped package...making it smaller? This way...you may be able to email it to me...
-
I managed to compress it, however- It wouldn't compress at all using ZIP(even with maximum compression)- With 7-Zip format, I managed to get it to compress to 4MB.
I will E-Mail this to you- If you don't have an archiver capable of reading 7-ZIP format, you could temporarily install 7-ZIP from www.7zip.com (http://www.7zip.com).
Aside from that- did you manage to view the tutorial on your end with the SWF? And if so- any thoughts?
-
I'm not at home at the moment...will have to check it later this evening and get back to you. I do have 7-zip, btw...so it shouldn't be a problem.

Update...
The flash tutorials have been nixed for HTML. Flash wasn't such a good idea, after all. I had issues with it in IE7, as well as file sizes.
Anyway...in case anyone is wondering what the new tutorials will look like...here ya go: Windows Vista - How to Change Desktop Wallpaper (http://www.saviourpc.com/change_vista_wallpaper)

Omg I love the mascot for your Tutorials
Did you make him yourself and what program did you use?
I want one so bad

I'm here- so I'll update anybody watching this topic-
we're no longer going the route of using the flash rendered by Wink, and are instead using it's HTML export feature. This was mostly because IE7 users weren't able to see the tutorials, which almost defeats the purpose of their Existence, given that most people who would find them useful likely still have IE7.
Side effects of the change are almost all positive, however, excepting the need to edit any Presentations designed for SWF usage to better suit the HTML output.
