Title: yellow marks different computer
Post by: ImnoGuru on September 25, 2008, 06:57:45 AM
Hello, I picked up a computer cheap but it has these yellow marks in the device manager. They are the same as the last computer being "Video controller" and "Multimedia Audio Controller" there was a third yellow mark but I managed to fix that with Broni's help from the last post.

Broni helped me last time and I downloaded Everest home, so I ran that on this computer.
This is what it shows:   I think I only posted up to the line DMI.

If someone can have a look at it and let me know what it is/means please.
I dont understand how to read it or relate to what it shows. I suppose it means the drivers for these two items are incorrect and I'd like to fix it.
Many thanks

Every site I go to recommends downloading driver detective to find the sound driver I need.
I dont know if I can trust the site though.
They all pretty much have the windows logo's in the sidebars saying its "specially designed for Windows" xp so on, but this is the first time Ive ever had to rely on sites like this. Are they safe?

You need a Driver for your Video adapter, a "Intel Extreme Graphics 2", and the sound, an "AC'97 Audio Controller [A-2/A-3]"

Search Google, go to manufacturers website, etc.

I personally haven't tried any of those "detective" programs that find the right driver automatically. Personally, I wouldn't trust them.

BC_Programmer    Thanks for that. That is exactly why I posted here. I have heard of untold problems/infections from such sites. I have no confidence in them at all.
I figured it would need that driver, but as I said I dont trust them yet.
Thanks again BC_Programmer I'll try your suggestion.

Your audio driver: http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/rc/rc_drive.htm
Install .INF driver, first. That should take care of video driver, as well.

Thanks Broni for the info on Driver detective AVOID IT. Got it.
I really didnt trust it anyway coz they say leave it all to us and we'll fix it for you just click here.... Very SUSSS.

Well Broni I downloaded the drivers and put them in but I still dont have any sound.
I have loaded so many of these drivers in there now, youd think one of them would make it fly.

If this is a totally different computer...you should start another thread...otherwise, you'll confuse those who are trying to assist you.

Also, you may want to post an Everest log with the info on this new computer, please...

This is the TPG computer Saviour, the same one I wanted to find out if the card was a sound card.
The Everest log is posted above. I had trouble with the video and Audio, BC-Programmer and Broni, recommmended downloading the drivers from intel. Which I did and cured two of the yellow marks, but the sound didnt respond to the new drivers and it still doesnt have any sound.
I wanted to get a sound card to try in the computer, but havent found one yet.
I apologize for any confusion.

Then, did you take a look at my posts, starting here:  http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,67231.msg440948.html#msg440948 in the other thread you have regarding this same computer?

Ah I see. I'll try that then, and hopefully it will cure the sound problem.
Thank you Saviour.

If you're replacing a sound card...why not try to find out what's wrong with your current one first?  It looks like you're having a driver issue with the one that's currently in your system.
Your questions Saviour lead me to think.....
So lets stand back for a minute and have a look.

If a motherboard has a sound jack attached and visible from the rear of the case, to connect say speakers, to spk jack and a microphone to the mic jack and so on,... then does it also have to have some circuit board attachable unit actually in/on the motherboard, (eg like the one pictured but the proper one)?

and if it doesnt is this called the onboard sound...

or is the mere fact that the computer has these insertable sockets for line, mic auxillary and speaker at the rear of the case mean that it has a sound (card/system).

or am I just not seeing "the sound card". The view of photo's above show slots and the case cut outs and no added CARDS, also the cut outs are all intact, so no units have been installed in the slots that require the removal of any cut out.

My neighbour is back now, (the one I bought the computer from), so I can ask him some of these questions and maybe get a sound card from him to install. I'll ask him next chance I get.
Thanks again everyone.I'll get back to you when I get a sound card.

CURED.. my neighbour had a little USB plug-in device, no bigger than your thumb, called "3D SOUND" cost $5.00 AU.
The computer plays sounds through all modes. So it seems that there is a problem on the motherboard with the sound system.
I apologize for the long delay in response, work got a little hectic for a while....( got to get it while its there ) but thank you all for your support with these issues.
Each answer should have worked in their own right, however I think there is some issue with the motherboard that caused this problem in the first place.

Regardless we found a satisfactory solution to the problem, once again thank you all.
