Title: No audio on Dell laptop
Post by: Techrookie on November 02, 2008, 06:18:20 PM
About 3 weeks ago the audio on my Dell Inspiron E1505 vanished!! I tried the following unsucessfully so far:

restored to an earlier date when the audio worked

downloaded the Sigmatel STAC92XX-C driver from the Dell site and got the following error message when I tried to install:
"device object not present restart the system & run setup again"; when I restart the add hardware wizzard tries to install the device but I get the following error message: "the I/O operation has been aborted because a thread exit or an application request"

tried to install from a safe boot and from the Vista upgrade CD provided by Dell

I am using SRS Audio Sandbox (sound enhancer) which is listed as the speakers when I move the cursor under the volume icon on the taskbar. I uninstalled it and repeated the installation steps again but with the same results.

I scoured a number of technical forums and see that there are a number of issues with Sigmatel drivers but haven't found a solution yet. I tried everything I could think of!!

I am running Vista SP1 and would greatly appreciate any assistance.
Thanks.
