You do realize that using the Recovery Disc will restore the computer to first-turn on conditions?
(This means it will erase everything currently on it and start fresh)
What happens when you try to boot the computer?
We may still be able to fix the laptop.
-
yeah we know that. we dont have anything important on it anyway. i did the last microsoft update and its just wrecked the laptop. im not sure what you mean by reboot but i have restarted the laptop and tried again but it does the same thing.
-
All right, lets just get the thing restored then.
Are you sure you're booting from the CD?
(just to make sure, are these the CD's that came with the laptop?)
-
yeah sony sent it today its for our model.
-
All right, good.
Are you booting from your CD or DVD Drive?
Yes, No, Don't know?
(You need to make sure the CD Drive has been set to boot first in the Boot Order)
-
dont know. iv just put the cd in the only place a cd goes.
-
When you press the power button on the computer to turn it on, keep tapping either F1, F2, Delete, ESC or F10.
When you're in the BIOS Setup, look for something along the lines of Boot Order or Boot Device and make sure the CD Drive/DVD Drive is first on the list.
-
done
-
Once you set the Boot Order to CD/DVD Drive first, restart and it should boot from the CD.
(Make sure it's already in there ;))
-
it doesn't start automatically i gave to go to my computer and select edrive that has the disk and vaio icon. i double click the recovery utility comes up i press continue then the error 70 VRU message comes up
-
Aren't you supposed to boot from the CD, not run it inside Windows?
If the computer asks if you want to boot from CD press Any Key, press any key.
In fact, if you can get into Windows, we can help you remove the virus.
-
doesnt give me the option to. when i restart it goes to the login page i log in and it just loads my desktop. i can access everything but the internet. internet explorer just pops up and dissapears. the disc drive keeps ejecting the disc.
-
Inside Windows, use System Restore (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000589.htm) and restore the computer to a few days before the problem started.
-
Yeah, that was the first thing we did and that doesnt work either, we spoke to sony any and they said that they think the hard drives gone so we just went out and brought a new laptop. Thanx again for your help, no doubt you'll be helping me again soon !
-
they think the hard drives gone
I bet they just lied to you.
If you can still get into Windows, the Hard Drive is still fully functional.
Sigh.........
