What exactly did you do?

Also, do you have the Windows Vista CD from Microsoft?

System Mechanic has some powerful components that can wonk things but i guess you have found that out at this point.
Check the laptop manuf. website or your Manual for instructions on how to use the hidden system partition to return the machine to Day One status...
Unfortunately using this procedure is going to wipe all your data and any Programs installed after you got the machine.

Someone said I could do a system restore by rebooting and hold down the F8 key and select safe mode then restore my comp. Will it be safe to do this?I have also located another Windows Vista CD from a friend,if I run this n my comp, will my Windows screen come back up?Thanks for your time.

You can try Safe Mode, if your computer will go there.
You can also use your friend DVD to do some repairs. Manual: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html

I've tried to get into computer ,but impossible can't get into safe mode, and my friends Vista CD says for a different name brand only. Will it be safe to install it on mine?My laptop is a Hp pavillion and Cd is for a passario laptop.Would it be better to burn a Windows Vista Recovery CD?If so,where is a place to do this, and I may need instructions of how this is down,as I'm totally a beginner.I'm e-mailing from another computer.
Thanks,

That is what's known as an OEM CD...it is tied to the hardware it shipped with and will probably not allow an install on your machine at all.
On top of the drivers all being completely different.

If the HP came installed with Vista then it is located on a hidden partition on that machine...
Check HP's site for instructions on accessing it.
I believe you can also follow their directions to create a bootable recovery DVD...too big for CD.
You are allowed to do this twice so put it in a safe place.

I'd still order a Vista DVD though if they will ship it to you...handy to have.

HP recovery partition - F11 at start.

You can also....

Create Vista Recovery Disc.

Option 1:
http://www.c4consulting.com.au/soluctions/vista/VISTA%20SOLUCTIONS.htm

Option 2:
Download Vista Recovery Disc iso image: http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/
Burn it to CD, or DVD: http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/G/Burning+ISO+Images+to+a+CD+or+DVD

Boot from created disk.
At first screen click on Repair your computer:
This will bring you to a new screen where the repair process will look for all Windows Vista installations on your computer. When done you will be presented with the System Recovery Options dialog box:
After this, it will present you with a list of options including startup repair, system restore and command prompt:
Try System Restore, first.
If that doesn't work, try Startup Repair.

Great info, but I think I better get someone more knowledgeable about doing this,as this looks like greek to me,and I'm just a beginner and afraid I will do something wrong and cause damage to the computer I'm on now.For someone like you this is probably very simple, and you gave great directions. Will see if I can find someone  to help.
Thanks,

If you can find someone, great, but it's really simple to make that CD/DVD.
If you go to my link, all you have to is to download, and install Image Burn, for instance. From there, there are only 3 steps to make a disk:

   1. Browse to the ISO-file you want to burn
   2. Select the ISO file and right-mouse-click now
   3. Choose "Burn using ImgBurn"

You're done.

Ok,All I have to do is go to the neosmart link you gave and download the Windows Vista recovery disc, then go to your instructions and burn the Cd.When I download  the Windows Vista Recovery  from the neosmart site will it ask to "save" or "run" the  download,if so do I save it to desktop so I can find it to burn the Cd? then next follow your directions to burn it.Told you I was a beginner. As you can probably tell I have never burned anything. ;D ::)
