Title: CD-ROM won't read discs
Post by: furbyjs on December 07, 2008, 08:23:37 AM
For some reason neither of my cd-roms will not read discs.  They show up on device manager with a question mark to the side on the icon, but they wont read discs.  I have tried uninstalling the hardware, changing the ribbons, and i changed the cd-roms theirselves, none of it worked. Please help me if you can.

From device manager uninstall the drives & from there shut down the system & reboot. Windowd should recognise the drives upon reboot

Welcome to ComputerHope

What Operating System?

What happened before the problem? (downloads/installs/hardware changes/ect...)

Are the question marks next to the CD/DVD Drive?
If so:
Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see two items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstall. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.
