Title: Built in speakers problem
Post by: joshizzle3 on December 18, 2008, 09:40:54 PM
I have an HP Pavillion dv6000-- the computer with never enough problems...

The latest is a speaker issue. The speakers are of course built in, and were malfunctioning. They weren't appearing in the bottom left, and I couldn't adjust the volume. I figured I would just disable them then re-enable them, but now they've disappeared from the  control panel. I can't find the speakers anywhere, and by the icon in the bottom left, instead of a mute or something, there's a red x.

Help? Thanks!

Have you tried System Restore?
When you bought your computer, it should have came with some cds. Do you have them?

So they aren't in the device manager?

click start -> right click my computer and select properties -> hardware tab -> Device Manager.

Any components with a red X or a yellow ! on it?

Just get the drivers from the HP website and reinstall the soundcard. The speakers are never detected anyway.
