On my laptop i always have internet...but today it just stoped.
I have it set beside my router, and it still says: Windows cannot find any networks.
WHAT DO I DO!!!
-
Find a network for it. Did you try looking behind the laptop?
My network sometimes crawls underneath a closet if I beat it too hard. I just lure it out with cookies again.
-
............
PLEASE HELP
-
Okay, okay.
I take it that it was not behind the laptop?
Tell me, is your refrigerator running?
-
IF UR NOT GONNA HELP ME THEN DONT POST HERE
-
But I WANT to help you! Every inch of my soul is crying out for me to help you!
Now tell me! is your refrigerator running? It might be very important!
-
YES
Then you better go catch it!
-
;D
You guys have me rolling on the floor.
Okay... down to business.
First: Can you find any other networks?
Second: Are the lights on your router blinking?
Try unplugging everything from the router and resetting it. Then try hooking up directly with a CAT-5 cable. Does that work?
If all else fails: eat the cookies before the network does. They're good. Especially the chocolate ones. ;)
-
LOL
ok ill try that
-
No it say there r NO networks
and yes the lights r blinking
What ill do is connect the ethernet cord going to my xbox to my laptop and get the network then try the wireless.
-
Didn't work
Still says that there is none
-
I just have a hard time believing that you're serious.
On what are you typing this and how did you secure the access console to your hyperdrive?
-
can you access the router configuration via a wired connection and double-check all wireless settings?
Make sure the router's antenna(s) are properly connected as well.
heh, it's ironic that my post was the only one aside the OP's that didn't include some sort of humour. (this statement notwithstanding)
-
Last time I messed with my router it broke...sooooo I don't think I'm gonna mess with it YET.
-
well, it doesn't seem to be working now...
-
well, it doesn't seem to be working now...
LOL ... ya u got a point
-
actually- try rebooting the router. Usually an option in it's config pages; or just unplug it until it's lights turn off, then plug it back in.
-
I wonder if your warp crystals might need replacing.
-
I wonder if your warp crystals might need replacing.
good point, I never thought of that one. I always just kind of bang'em together, sure, the captain THINKS I replaced them, but I just pocketed the 50 cents for the new crystals (which happen to just be replicated lego pieces).
Actually, this might be the reason the engines always seem to have problems when their needed most. Thankfully, those dumb engineers don't even know I haven't replaced a single crystal in over 10 years on any ship. So far, I've made almost 10 bucks, too.
-
WHAT?
-
well, it doesn't seem to be working now...
Actually it does...its sending internet to my main computer and to my xbox 360 (using an ethernet cord)
-
well- I meant the wireless functionality, of course- could have been disabled somehow; or a setting got messed up.
-

-
well- I meant the wireless functionality, of course- could have been disabled somehow; or a setting got messed up.
I no its not messed up from when I set it up because I had internet...and I dont mess with it so i dont think its disabled
-
No it say there r NO networks
Assuming the laptop's Wifi is still working properly- it's the router.
troubleshooting these types of problems only start out with guesswork. it narrows down as we get more information. In this case, unless another wireless device is connecting to the router with no problem, the router's wireless functionality has been impaired. The quickest solution is to simply reset the router. Most routers have a reset button on their rump.
Also: I just had a thought- you haven't changed the settings... but what wireless security have you implemented?

I don't know what security I have, but I know I have security set to "Higher Security".

Make a screenshot of your desktop and programs folder in the start bar and post it here.
-
OK but how do i put the pic in this fourm
-
just for clarification you are to do this on the laptop, not the desktop computer.
-
OK but how do i put the pic in this fourm
Upload it to http://imageshack.us/

When I save it it saves but when i go to look for it to upload it its not there (i saved it as a JPEG)

you must be putting it in the wrong folder. Just create a folder on your desktop and save it into that folder. You can't miss it that way.

Wait, put back that last link again.

There

Ok, you didn't make a screenshot of "all programs' which would have been useful.
You also have a crapload of programs running in the background that are hard to identify.
My guess is that the 9th, the computer with the parachute and exclamanation mark may have something to do with your wireless card. Open it and see what it says.
-
Im not using wrieless on this computer
-
When i roll my mouse over that icon it says:
Computer unabled to communicate with APC battery backup.
I have a battery backup incase the power goes out and i now no its not working lol ;D
-
probably should have copied the forum bbcode... regardless- the third system tray icon from the right is your network status, which appears to be wired. Why are you trying to diagnose the laptops wireless issue with your desktop? (If you are running SP1 or Non-SP XP I apologize since the icon will look the same)
On another note, you have WAY WAY WAY too many system tray notification icons... this means you have a lot of background programs running. I, for example, have four at the moment. MSN messenger, the "safely remove" icon, volume control, and taskSwitchXP Pro.
If you are willing we could help you remove the cruft, but for now- as I said before, this appears to be a screenshot of your desktop PC, not the laptop encountering issues (correct me if I'm wrong).
Im not using wrieless on this computer
well, that would explain why it's wireless connection doesn't work.
the screenshot we want would be the computer experiencing problems. Since you refuse to reboot the router and almost certainly put a end to this whole mess, we can go no further in resolving a router issue. As such, we can only assume (read:hope) that the laptop's wireless perhaps has a problem.

Ah, that makes sense. Ok, can you get a screenshot of the computer that DOES use wireless?
Make sure you open the "Program" list and also make sure that the system tray is fully expanded.
I am going to assume that you did NOT shut down the program.
-
1) What program?
2) Ok, umm how am I supposed to post a pic on my computer that does not have internet?
-
2) Ok, umm how am I supposed to post a pic on my computer that does not have internet?
get the image, and then copy it to removable media which you then place into the internet connected machine. Or, if available, use the ethernet plug on the laptop.
In the same vein, however- How are we supposed to diagnose problems with the laptop with screenshots of your desktop machine?
-
1) What program?
2) Ok, umm how am I supposed to post a pic on my computer that does not have internet?
1. No program, just unfold the program list in the start menu that says "All programs" or something similar so I can see a list of installed programs
2. I'd put it on a diskette.
-
OK ill use an ethernet off my xbox
-

I can't see any evidence of wireless software installed.
I'm guessing you're using the Windows Vista zero wireless configuration?
-
I never installed any wireless softwere on my laptop but it always worked
On my main computer i did (i set up the router on my main comp)
-
Ok. So did you try rebooting the router yet?
-
No I didnt, but i just turned on my laptop and i had internet, i wasnt geting signal but now i am and i didnt touch any thing

This was suggested 3 weeks ago...

more then once, by more then one person.
Basically,
have u stoped helping me
I have.
If you aren't going to even attempt to follow half of the advice given or even give a godd reason why not, and simply while and complain about something not working without so much as any background information as to the state of things when it did/didn't work, then there is no reason for anybody to waste their time trying to convince you how to fix your own machine.
