Title: A couple of things are worrying me
Post by: Barlnar on December 27, 2008, 08:26:56 PM
Alright, let me start from the beginning. Today, about 10 hours ago, I went onto surfthechannel.net to watch an episode of House. I haven't been onto the site for awhile, but it usually never gave me a problem. Sure, I would get the occasional pop-up or two, but nothing major. But this time, I got swarmed with pop-ups and the site kept on trying to install things onto my computer and trying to make me agree to things. I forced my computer to shut-down and when I restarted it and logged back on, I saw a couple of things on my toolbar (at the bottom right-hand corner of my screen). It said that Window Automatic Updates couldn't be turned on and something about Explorer.exe being changed or something. I couldn't quite remember what it said.

I did a full-system scan and nothing came up. No viruses, no nothing. But I was still worried because I couldn't turn on Windows Automatic Updater, even manually. I downloaded Dial-a-fix, hoping that would help my problems out, but it hasn't. And in the background, a second scan was going on and it showed that there were three viruses. Two of them were Trojan Horse SHeur2.hsf viruses and the other one was a Trojan Horse Downloader.Generic8.HPC virus. All of them were found in my C:\FOUND.005 folder, which I haven't even heard of until just now and all of them were deleted. I'm doing another scan to make sure everything is still clean.

How worried should I be? And how can I get Windows Automatic Updater to start working again?

Please help.

EDIT: Oh, I also restarted my computer a couple hours ago. I went through a huge disc check, but I was in the bathroom at the time so I couldn't get all the details of it.

To be sure you're clean, read this: http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html

Post the three logs and a malware specialist will review them.

Good luck. :)
