Shameless link (http://evilfantasy.wordpress.com/2009/01/23/make-a-promise-to-go-green-and-get-250-gb-free-file-hosting/) to my blog for more details.
SmashingApps (http://www.smashingapps.com/) and FileDropper (http://www.filedropper.com/) are teaming up to do their part for the environment. Average American consumes more than 700 pounds of paper per year, highest compared to anywhere else in the world. Hundreds of thousands of trees are cut down per day to support the consumption of paper that can be easily avoided.

All you have to do to get your free 250 GB file hosting accounts is to make a pledge about going green. When doing your pledge please post a link to this post. You can make a pledge in any of the following ways…
Post it on Twitter, post it on your blog, or post a video of it on YouTube, or create a picture and post it on Flickr. You can make your promise anyway you like as long as we can verify it.
Once you have made the pledge post the link to your promise in the comments below and sign up for your free file hosting account using this form (http://www.filedropper.com/green-project-smashingapps.php) you will need to enter “smashingapps” in the special code field. The last date to create your free account will be Friday, January 30, 2009.

too late now.
-
I got mine. Free lifetime account is 40 years...
-
nice...
-
They only want you to live 40 years ? ?
That seems unfair.
-
At my age, it'd be fair enough ;D
-
Well hopefully that wouldn't be a lifetime fo rme.
-
i dont even think that i would make a dent in the amount of space their offering, propably just upload my Mythbuster episodes i got off of Itunes, and a few important docs.
-
It's more of an effort to get people to realize sharing documents/pictures is quick and easy. Although I'm sure everyone was already aware of online storage, I think the 250gb was just enough where users might decide they want a bit more online space...at a cost. It's really just a marketing strategy.
But I do like FileDropper. Rapidshare and MediaFire have become riddled with popups and ads. FileDropper is quick and easy on the eyes, even for free users.

In less that 40 years 250GB
coupons will come in Cereal Boxes.
On recycled rice paper.
-
Very true statement right there.
-
You might be able to store 250gb on rice paper by then....

You might be able to store 250gb on rice paper by then....
Yes, but only after being recycled. The brand new rice paper is only use for above Terabyte storage. The recycled is good at 250GB :P

and the storage capacity of Vellum Parchment is around the 20 Yottabyte mark per square metre.

i've heard of Peta-Byte but this is a new story.

Yoda-byte... No yotta-byte. Yoda Bite is from that secret easter egg where Yoda had rabies during that Dagobah scene.
I believe it was 1024 Peta Bytes.... or was it Peta... Exa... THEN Yotta....
