I just got a new laptop and one thing I didn't like about it was I couldn't turn its screen off other than closing the lid.
I did a couple of searches and found these two applications:
http://www.redmondpie.com/turn-off-your-notebook-lcd-with-one-click/
http://techblissonline.com/laptop-display-battery-turn-off/
I've tried them, and they both work perfectly.
The first one shows a Command Prompt window. The other one doesn't.

nice, good saver on that precious battery power if you dont have an accessible outlet.

They have a widget like that for yahoo widgets. They might have somehting for the vista sidear too.

It should just have the option in control panel, under 'Power Options'. that's where it normally is.

That's set with a timer. These apps turn the screen off manually.
