This may be in the wrong section, but:
What're your download speeds?
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/416146630.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
That's mine.
Use: This (http://www.speedtest.net)
-
Last time I checked (1/27/09):
Download Speed: 1459 kbps (182.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 378 kbps (47.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
That's really about as good as I can expect, since my service is rated at 1500 kbps download and 384 kbps upload.
Who is your ISP? Is your service DSL? How much does it cost per month?

Moving this to "Off Topic" board...
I'm out at my dads right now, so I dont have my incredible fiber...
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/416329733.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Verizon DSL
I will test the fiber later when I am back on the East side of the Cascades.

You didn't move it?

I suppose I should mention mine was on wifi as well... I dont have a cable up here.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/417386672.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
The only devices connected directly to my router are my server (which, only has lynx on it, and I dont think Speedtest would work very well) and a weather device.
-
Pros.
-
There we go, hooked up to a cable:
That's actually very impressive. Wow.

I imagine that it is actually capable of more if the site wasn't up?
-
Wow nice Nathan!

Thanks. ;D
-
WOA!!! Is that at your house? How much does that cost!!??!!

WOA!!! Is that at your house? How much does that cost!!??!!
Well Photoshop was I think around $300-400, but it was a one time fee. ;) I just wish I had that fast of connection. It's fake. :)
-
I KNEW IT! I WAS GONNA SAY THAT!!! YES! PHOTOSHOPPED A 230k SPEED :P.
[/caps]
Okay ;o.
-
hahah i was genna say. Post some real speeds
-
Your closest server is in Japan??
With the Hong Kong server, the upload speed is faster than the download speed, which isn't fast at all.
Yes....I cheated..... :(

>:( >:( :( :(

(http://www.speedtest.net/result/420220183.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
Computeruler, your speed test is a lie! Even if you have Time Warner cable's internet, it goes to a max of 6000kb/s and if you were getting the full 6, you would be getting much more upload than you are! So when I tested it on my laptop, I was getting about 1000kb/sec down and 200 up. I blame your computer. It has always done this! I will find out for sure some time int he near future!!!! >:( >:(
Sorry about my rant, everybody.
-
Want me to post some speeds from a different desktop on wireless? (dell) Ill get em soon
-
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/420236617.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
keep in mind this was on wireless
the upload was even lower!
-
but on tw, it is impossible ot get 7000kb/sec
-
Why?
-
I know someone who was getting 30mb on tw
-
because tw in computeruler's area does not have another package higher than 6kb/sec. There is that Time warner turbo, but it isn't available in his area.
-
My official Comcast speed is 8MB (I believe), and I'm getting 15MB on average.
-
How?
-
Fine, you guys win. But how could I only be getting about 1/6th of what his computer gets when I am testing his connection on my laptop? And why don't any other computers connected to his network get the same results? They are all much slower. That is why I think it is just his computer that is messed up.
-
would say about 128Kbps to 312Kbps, ATnT DSL
its pretty good 8)
-
Look at the one i just posted. That was on a wireless computer downstairs (router upstairs)
i think your laptop just has a old slow wireless card
-
There are different tricks, but the basic one is to kill half-open connections limit: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/31/tcp-z-free-download-half-open-tcpip-memory-patcher-for-x86-and-x64-windows-7-vista-and-xp/
-
I will try
-
Ahhhh I hate sites like that! Every word seems to be a link, but they are all just ads! Where do I download this? I went to the source link, but macafee site advisor says the site is bad, so I don;t think I will downlaod it from there.
-
i got it and these are my results
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/420253140.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
is it just me or did it not help as much as it helped you? What doyou have your settings at? and did you install it as a driver or not?
-
Yes, you have to install it as a driver.
Did you do it manually, or you installed the patch?
Did you restart?
-
I did it the manual way. I just clicked on TCPZ.exe and set it all the way to 250. So if I isntall it as a driver it will increase speed even mroe?
-
Install ReadyDriver Plus first. If you don't do it, you'd have to run the patch on every boot.
Set the limit to 50,000.
-
Installing the drive now and I aready installed that readydriver plus
ok installed and it wont set past 252
-
Is it 64-bit Vista?
-
32
-
I see...this is a new patch. I'm used little bit older version...
I can see, you can't set the limit to more than 255, but try 0 (zero) - unlimited
In any case, to see, if patch is working, go to event viewer, and expand Warning key:
...look for Event 4226.
If it doesn't happen AFTER patch installation date/time, it means, the patch is working.
NOTE. Some Windows updates will restore original tcpip.sys file, so you have to check for Event 4226 after monthly updates. So far, in a period of about two years, I've been using the patch, it happened once to me. You simply reapply the patch, and you're good to go.
-
It wasnt there scence yesterday at 7:50 am
-
Try to use some torrent, P2P, etc.
If the event 4226 is still not there, the patch is working.
-
Downloading right now and its not there
-
Must be working then.
Do you have appropriate ports open?
Also...
Download, and install TCP Optimizer: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
Open it, and put a checkmark in Optimal Settings. Click Apply changes button.
Restart computer.
-
What ports should I have open? Running TCP optimizer now
-
What ports should I have open?
Depending on what P2P/torrent programs you use.
See here: http://portforward.com/
Do NOT use this:
Start with selecting your router from the list.
-
Oh I did that I think and utorrent gives me the green thingy
-
utorrent gives me the green thingy
??

Thanks a lot Boni you made my computer start in safe mode and it only gives me 1/2 a second to move the thing to start in normal mode. I think it was that ready driver plus. Now I cant start it in any other thing than safe mode >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
-
It's not his fault you didn't follow instructions...or clicked something you shouldn't.
-
it only gives me 1/2 a second to move the thing to start in normal mode.
Do nothing.
It's normal to see the highlight jumping between lines. Just be patient, and don't touch the keyboard.
If nothing helps, you can uninstall.
-
It's not his fault you didn't follow instructions...or clicked something you shouldn't.
That too :)
-
I had to. It didnt "jump" it just stayed on safemode and only gave me 1/2 a sec of time to change it so I had to uninstall it. And I clicked nothign wrong
-
Hmmmm....those young people.... :P
-
wow, what a strange difference CR, because I followed this with my laptop and it's working fine... Although I already had it installed; I pretty much did what Broni outlined. As such one can only assume a 1D-10-T error has occured on your end.
-
Whats a 1D-10-T error
-
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
-
Whats a 1D-10-T error
It s serious flaw. You can't stop it, in fact it's the leading cause of computer problems. The only way to prevent it is education,. and even then success rates are dismal.

I did nothing wrong. I did everything as Broni told me to

Like I said- nothing stops a 1D-10-T error, completely unavoidable. Takes years of hard work and therapy to fix. In short, you should probably look into it. One of the sure cures is jumping off a cliff, except it has the unfortunate side effect of death as well, which is generally not a recommended state. As such, the second solution, slamming your face down on a hot barbecue grill, comes recommended by top scientists in the field. Most people with 1D-10-T errors report fewer symptoms after performing this routine daily; although they report more frequent scarring as well as cannibals mistaking them for BBQ flavour, but in general the basic symptoms are reduced; they learn, for example, that fire=hot.
