Title: Your Download Speeds!
Post by: BatchRocks on February 22, 2009, 09:36:30 AM
This may be in the wrong section, but:

What're your download speeds?

(http://www.speedtest.net/result/416146630.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)

That's mine.

Use: This (http://www.speedtest.net)

Last time I checked (1/27/09):
Download Speed: 1459 kbps (182.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 378 kbps (47.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

That's really about as good as I can expect, since my service is rated at 1500 kbps download and 384 kbps upload.

Who is your ISP?  Is your service DSL?  How much does it cost per month?

Moving this to "Off Topic" board...

I'm out at my dads right now, so I dont have my incredible fiber...

I will test the fiber later when I am back on the East side of the Cascades.

I suppose I should mention mine was on wifi as well... I dont have a cable up here.

The only devices connected directly to my router are my server (which, only has lynx on it, and I dont think Speedtest would work very well) and a weather device.

Computeruler, your speed test is a lie!  Even if you have Time Warner cable's internet, it goes to a max of 6000kb/s and if you were getting the full 6, you would be getting much more upload than you are! So when I tested it on my laptop, I was getting about 1000kb/sec down and 200 up.  I blame your computer.   It has always done this!  I will find out for sure some time int he near future!!!! >:( >:(

Sorry about my rant, everybody.

I know someone who was getting 30mb on tw
Title: Re: Your Download Speeds!

because tw in computeruler's area does not have another package higher than 6kb/sec. There is that Time warner turbo, but it isn't available in his area.

Title: Re: Your Download Speeds!
Post by: paudashlake on February 28, 2009, 11:53:02 AM
Fine, you guys win.  But how could I only be getting about 1/6th of what his computer gets when I am testing his connection on my laptop?  And why don't any other computers connected to his network get the same results?  They are all much slower.  That is why I think it is just his computer that is messed up.

is it just me or did it not help as much as it helped you? What doyou have your settings at? and did you install it as a driver or not?
Title: Re: Your Download Speeds!
Post by: Broni on February 28, 2009, 12:19:02 PM
Yes, you have to install it as a driver.
Did you do it manually, or you installed the patch?
Did you restart?
Title: Re: Your Download Speeds!
Post by: computeruler on February 28, 2009, 12:20:03 PM
I did it the manual way. I just clicked on TCPZ.exe and set it all the way to 250. So if I isntall it as a driver it will increase speed even mroe?
Title: Re: Your Download Speeds!
Post by: Broni on February 28, 2009, 12:27:44 PM
Install ReadyDriver Plus first. If you don't do it, you'd have to run the patch on every boot.
Set the limit to 50,000.

Title: Re: Your Download Speeds!
Post by: Broni on February 28, 2009, 01:50:46 PM
I see...this is a new patch. I'm used little bit older version...
I can see, you can't set the limit to more than 255, but try 0 (zero) - unlimited
In any case, to see, if patch is working, go to event viewer, and expand Warning key:

...look for Event 4226.
If it doesn't happen AFTER patch installation date/time, it means, the patch is working.

NOTE. Some Windows updates will restore original tcpip.sys file, so you have to check for Event 4226 after monthly updates. So far, in a period of about two years, I've been using the patch, it happened once to me. You simply reapply the patch, and you're good to go.

Title: Re: Your Download Speeds!
Post by: Broni on February 28, 2009, 02:05:09 PM
Try to use some torrent, P2P, etc.
If the event 4226 is still not there, the patch is working.

Must be working then.
Do you have appropriate ports open?

Also...

Download, and install TCP Optimizer: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
Open it, and put a checkmark in Optimal Settings. Click Apply changes button.
Restart computer.

What ports should I have open?
Depending on what P2P/torrent programs you use.
See here: http://portforward.com/
Do NOT use this:

Start with selecting your router from the list.

It's normal to see the highlight jumping between lines. Just be patient, and don't touch the keyboard.
If nothing helps, you can uninstall.

Like I said- nothing stops a 1D-10-T error, completely unavoidable. Takes years of hard work and therapy to fix. In short, you should probably look into it. One of the sure cures is jumping off a cliff, except it has the unfortunate side effect of death as well, which is generally not a recommended state. As such, the second solution, slamming your face down on a hot barbecue grill, comes recommended by top scientists in the field. Most people with 1D-10-T errors report fewer symptoms after performing this routine daily; although they report more frequent scarring as well as cannibals mistaking them for BBQ flavour, but in general the basic symptoms are reduced; they learn, for example, that fire=hot.
