Title: pop up adware?

My son went on a freestuff site and asked for some"freestuff".
When using the internet now we get adds for all sorts coming though.The adds are relevant to the type of internet page we are looking at.
I have run defender it tell me there is nothing there.
We have registry mechanic (full version purchased) .I noticed that on another post it tells you to use that.I have run this but it still happens.
any suggestions
