I erased all the songs on my Maxell CD-RW and put some new songs on from my iTunes. Problem is, i did not choose the Audio CD for the type. I cant remember if i chose Mp3 or Data CD. now, my modem has a hard time reading the CD. I tried erasing the data on the CD but i get an error message saying it cant be done. I tried re-formating but it cant, another error message.

Your modem has a cd player?

What are the two error messages that you are getting on your machine every time you try to erase the data or format the disk? This info will help in the troubleshooting process.

I have Windows Vista. i right click on the DVD-RW drive to erase what ever is on the CD-RW. I am then taken to the wizard to erase the CD-RW. for a second it seems like it will erase the disk but right at the end a message reading that the wizard could not finish the process and i should try again. if this problem persists, then there might be something wrong with the disk. when i try to format the disk(again by right clicking the DVD-RW drive and selecting format) a message reading that the process that i have chosen can not be completed. when i go on to my iTunes, the program doesnt read the disk.

1. CD-RW disks are cheap.
2. They are easy to damage.
3. They don't last forever.
4. Data stored on them is not very secure
5. Use them as temporary storage only
6. Don't use them as the only storage place for stuff you want to keep.
7. Your CD-RW disk is possibly damaged and unusable.
8. Try it in another PC to make sure.
Why did you write this?
my modem has a hard time reading the CD
Do you know what a modem is?

So what did you put the disk into? Describe it.
Does it look like this?

A modem is what connects you to the Internet.

i put it into the CD/DVD drive in the tower.

Have you only got one CD-RW disk? If so, and you use it a lot, this could be the problem, because they are delicate and do not take well to lots of handling. You could try another disk, but I guess maybe the drive could have a problem.

this is actually the first time i tried to re-write on the disk. but yeah, maybe the drive is actin up. i dont know. earlier today, i had to "repair" my iTunes. for some reason, th iTunes wasnt able to burn CDs and the drive wasnt able to erase the CD-RW. i thought i fixed the problem. after the "repair," i was able to erase the CD-RW and burn songs onto it through iTunes. thing is, I did not choose the "Audio CD" for the type of disk i was using. I think it was Mp3 or Data CD/DVD. i dont know if that had anything to do with it. after all that, im here begging help.

So have you tried another disk?

i pretty much wont find out if another CD-RW will work until i find another one. but regular CD are doin just fine.
