when i turn on my computer it dosent boot up it says insert BOOT diskette in a: so im tryin to get one and maybe itll boot up

its now writing the disk it keeps having errors in reading the tract.. will it still boot up?

Playa1471....If you give us some info .......for example.....
What operating system are you using ?
When did the problem occur ?
Were you or anyone else playing around with settings?
Has you p/c been infected by a virus or Trojan ......this could be the problem......
Tell us and hopefully we can assist you .

ok this is wut i know..its a gateway windows 98 it messed up like year 2000 all i used to do is play games it may be a virus i dunno... it did this before and someoen tried to fix it i bought a new hard drive and everything now it says the same thing i dont really know wut u mean by operating systems ooooo and i remmber something someone uploaded it to 2000 after the second time it did this

Playa1471.....ok so your p/c is a gateway......and it had Win 98 on it ...but someone updated it to Win 2K...Do you have the Win2k disk and product code.
Do you have a current Anti virus program installed .

Playa....If youve got XP thats even better.......why not just format your drive and load Win xp........

Playa1471.....do yourself a favour and install a anti virus program on your p/c after you get XP loaded.

i went to bootdisk.com it kept having errors while writing and i put it in the cpu and didnt do anything.. maybe it was the floppy?

after i get this new floppy and write it on the disk it shud then work with the boot drive in the a: then i can set up xp and uninstall 98 and then install anti virus?

last question i think :D, am i supposed to save that on my computer or on a disk? i tried to do it on disk and it said that not enough space on disk then i looked on disk and it didnt have anything saved on it i looked in microsoft word

Playa1471......Use the one I sent you it fits on a floppy just fine .....( and it works.....I used it a week ago to do a XP install )

hmph ..its not working but i think its becasue inside the computer one of those cords coming out of the box with all the color full wires that says the model and stuff and hazardous area the 2 cords are...P4 and P5

and when i put the floppy in the light didnt come on either

just found where to put the p5 in and it was in the floppy..

what else have you disconnected ?.............LOL
just shut down....put the floppy in and startup .......tell me what happens

lol wassup , were making progress... the p5 worked and now it says non system disk or something hit key, its now also letting me go into setup, and the p4 is unplugged still i cant find out where to put it at :\

how many wires and what color are they going into the P4

yes aol messenger and all colors r the same 2 yellow, 2 red, 4 black

the hard drive should have a 4 wire plug in it red, black , black, yellow .........big wide ide plug ........cd will have the same 4 wire plug and a ide plug as well ......the floppy you have plugged in ....so carry on
