I have been finding that at some times during the night, I haven't been able to stream Youtube videos in HD properly. It has been stopping and starting.
I usually get 10Mbit internet at all times.
I have Netmeter running all the time and I noticed that even when I wasn't watching a video, it could still be using 500-600Kb/s (bytes, not bits).
I have posted a screenshot of one of these times including a net-monitoring program which shows some off ip address.
I'm not sure what to make of this... Is it just some program downloading updates or something more sinister??
Thanks for any help and specs in sidebar

Ok you do know that youtube is based on seeders yes? Your not downloading of a site but other people. They may have turned there computers off!!
-
you tube is not based on seeders...
-
Ok sorry BC I thought you downloaded off people not a site. What happens when you download?
-
youtube stores the videos on a server
Anyway, youtube is not the problem - it's just the reason why I spotted the bandwith problem i.e. something using alot of bandwith even with no p2p program or browser etc open
-
Do you have any other computers on the same network? If you have wireless, is it protected so only you can use it?
-
There are 2 other computers on the network and they are wireless. I have WPA encryption on the network.
oh crap, i just realised that I havent posted the screenshot!!
As you can see in the screenshot, netmeter is showing the usage of my network adapter.
This was taken with no browser or p2p programs open

If it means anything, I've got Netmeter too.
Could Windows Updates be running? Any P2P software enabled?
What about remote-control software?
-
I was thinking it might be a program updating or windows update but there was nothing I could think of and it definitely isn't Windows Update.
No P2P programs running, I checked b4 I took the screenshot.
Any ideas on the IP address that is shown on the network monitoring program?
-
Is Asher-PC the name of your computer, or any other computer in your network?
-
That's me
-
Well, check it out for yourself.
http://74.125.4.35/
Sure did surprise me....
-
Yes I did try that b4 but i thought it must be a mistake....
Weird isn't it?
-
well, if you want to find out what program is connecting to google, you can use TCPView (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897437.aspx) which displays the executable making the connection.
-
Go to Task Manager > Processes, and see how many svchosts are running.
-
13 are running at the moment with no bandwith hogging
will repost when the problem is going on
-
Malware (e.g. trojan downloader) problem?
-
I'm running Bitdefender firewall and it scans every day and hasn't picked up anything
I will run the usual programs and see what I find
-
Malware (e.g. trojan downloader) problem?
My second guess.
-
I'd say head over to the malware section and post the logs.
-
Will do
-
Thread started in the Malware section

In the meantime, if you want to try out Wireshark, you'll be able to see in more detail what the traffic is and where it's going.
