Title: Monitor Screw Stuck
Post by: jdiam on May 20, 2005, 08:00:01 AM
Hi.

I cannot disconnect my monitor from my computer, as one of the screws appears to be busted. Only the top plastic part seems to move, as it will twist but the screw will not loosen.

This monitor is broken and will not even turn on, so I am understandably desperate to disconnect it. Has anyone experienced this issue before, or have any ideas how I can get the damned thing unplugged?

Thanks for any help.

Ok, so the monitor cable screws will not come out of the desktop, right? What have you tried to get it out? Plyers?

Yes, the cable screw is stuck. I've tried both my fingers and plyers, but have made no progress. The other screw works perfectly.

WD 40 oil? (Not much! )

I'm not sure it would work ... the plastic grip turns freely, so even if the actual screw were lubricated, I wouldn't have the means to unscrew it.

Oh. I see... So the screw has come loose from the grip... Not good.... Any way that you can get that grip off?

Okay, I managed to get it off, but can't do anything with the exposed screw ... probably a strength issue, or poor plyers.

Twist away from the cord to loosen, towards the cord to tighten, right?

Yes... That's right... Now try the plyers and the oil...

Ahhh ... excellent, it worked! A little bloodied, but the thing's out so it's all good.

Thanks for the help, the oil worked wonders.
