Title: Virtual Memory and Processes
Post by: myming on June 18, 2009, 08:11:25 PM
Hello All,
Received a windows pop up stating that my vm was low and Windows was reproducing, etc.
I re-booted and the pop up was no longer visible.
Did a ctrl/alt/delete to Task Manager>processes tab>view>select column>clicked vm size box>clicked the top of the vm column and found 2 ScanningProcesses.exe.  One using 140,736K and the other using 140,732K - also a Zlclient.exe using 15,560K.
I thought maybe the three were combined, so i posted on the ZA forum.

This is my first experience with this situation and the first using the Task Manager.
Is it normal to be running two ScanningProcesses.exe ?  Alot of my processes are using 12-98,000K, is this normal ?

Thank you for any help offered.

It all depends how much RAM/VM you have.
Look at the bottom of Task Manager, and see what percentage of physical memory is used.

dear broni,

thank you for the response.

went into task manager>Performance tab with these results:

Physical Memory
Total K = 3135564
Available K = 2687784
System Cache K = 539712

but the numbers in available k and system cache k are in constant motion.

What are the "Commit charge" number at the bottom of Task Manager?
How much RAM do you have?

Since you have 3GB of RAM, your VM (min and max) should be set to approx. 4.5GB

broni,

the Windows - VM Minimum Too Low pop up just came back on  >:(

will you please tell me "how" to set the VM to the parameters that you suggested ?

i'll re-boot in the meantime - that will temporarily hold off the pop up.

thank you for taking the time to help me and all the other people with "problems" ! :-*

Here: http://www.theeldergeek.com/physically_setting_the_page_file_size.htm
Select "Custom size".
Set initial, and max number to 4500MB.
Click "Set" button, then OK.
Restart computer.
