Title: Graphics Card and Power Supply
Post by: Dunners3 on June 21, 2009, 08:15:56 AM
Hi all

Recently i have bought a NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT 1GB grahics card.but it won't fit in because of my current motherboard being a AGP slot.
The graphics card needs a PCI Express 2.0 and needs a mininim of 350W or greater.

So i looked around the web and found a cheap motherboard for the graphics card (Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2 (rev. 6.6)
Picture here:

Anyway.. my problem is my PSU (power supply). I don't know if it will be able to run the new motherboard and the graphics card.

Any help is greatly appreicated!

You may have to remove it...some labels are on the top of the unit.
4 Phillips head screws.

Ok i had a look at it...
i look inside from the outside and saw some number and letters
Maybe some one can understand any of them:
SPI 804-2007-35
SPI 8TG00034 DP
Hi-POT 0253 GO1

Those code strings aren't helpful.  Have you dismounted the unit, as patio suggested?  It should have a brand name, model #, and some wattage specifications somewhere on it.

For that card and board i'd get a minimum 500W PSU.....
More is always better.
Or if you will be upgrading again in the near future you can go even higher.
My newest one from last month is an 850W....not saying you need that much though.

Thanks ever so much for the help!

I have been talking to the seller of the Motherboard and he's got a spare Power supply  EZCool 600w power for 10  pound...

Think that would be enough?
