Title: No DVD sound in Windows Media Player
Post by: dgrd1701 on June 23, 2009, 10:39:00 PM
I'm not getting any sound when playing DVDs with Windows Media Player.  I've also tried two other DVD players and no sound there either.  I can play an audio CD with Windows Media Player, and sound is fine in games, event sounds, etc. but for some odd reason I don't get any sound when playing DVD movies.  I've searched through all the entries here and at "Ask Dave" and everything checks out fine.  I've reinstalled the latest driver 3 times on my HT Omega Striker, I've checked all the WMP settings, device settings, Windows device settings, driver is enabled, directx is updated, everything -- still no sound for DVDs in Windows XP.  When I boot to my Windows 7 partition everything works fine, but not in my main Windows XP partition.  Any ideas?

That fixed it, thanks very much.  I had a suspicion it might be a codec but didn't know where to check or where to get them.  I had Windows Media Player set to download codecs automatically but it wasn't working.  During codec installation it did find one broken codec (registry entry but no file).  Maybe that had something to do with it.

Thanks again.
