Title: Slow internet for only one computer?
Post by: Toobz on July 07, 2009, 08:41:31 PM
Hi everyone, I have a very peculiar problem with my Dell laptop. It is hooked up to a 2WIRE router with DSL. There are a couple other computers connected to the same router, and they get ~3mbps download speed on Speakeasy Speed Test. My laptop however gets only 750kbps. It just loads webpages so much slower.

I've tried everything I could think of, I cleared all my cache, temporary files, etc and registry with CCleaner. My computer is in seemingly great shape except that it experiences MUCH slower internet than the other computers, even when the other computers are turned off. Can anyone please help me? I'm totally lost!

Maybe you want to start by posting a hijack this log .... get hijack this program from the following link ... http://download.cnet.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html

Run it and post log it generates. A malware specialist can come along and see if your laptop is healthy and not sick .... good to know if it's alright isn't it? Maybe some malware hijacked your laptop and is causing internet to be slow? If not, at least we'll have eliminated one possible factor out of many  :)

Just a note: speed tests will be thrown out by any other computers or software using the same internet connection - peer to peer software in particular will chew up as much bnadwidth as you let it and falsely downgrade your speed test results.
