Title: computer shuts down when writing cds

I have Windows XP.  The problem is that when I am writing pictures to a cd.  When I tell the computer to write the files onto the cd a blue screen appears saying something about memory and my computer shuts off.  It only happens when I am writing things to a cd and I can't copy anything.  What do I do?
