I keep finding instances of task scheduler running in the processes.
I keep trying to shut it down permanently. Any advice?
Yes, this is my first post for help.
-
Use Admin Tools in Control Panel or services.msc to turn it off
-
This is odd, I know that the service was disabled once, but now it is running on automatic.
The properties for it are all greyed out(unavailable). I'm going to have to take a closer look at this.
-
is it greyed out in services.msc ? ?
If so something has made a registry change...
-
Not that it's any of my business, but why would you want to disable task scheduler? Just delete the tasks you don't want to run.

Yeah, it's greyed out in services.msc.

Task Scheduler is sometimes used by malwares. If it can't be disabled, I'd be suspicious.
-
I have no malware or viruses, I spent the last couple of days checking that rigorously.
I do know that it is used for updating software, I have removed all entries, and it still won't disable.

I don't like my computer doing anything unsupervised. I manage my own tasks.

Try Startup CPL...from Mike Lin.

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.

- Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
- Vista users:: Right click on SystemLook.exe, click Run As Administrator
- Copy the content of the following box into the main textfield:
:dir
C:\Windows\Tasks /s
- Click the Look button to start the scan.
- When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

Fine, then just check it once in a while and delete any tasks you don't want running. But disabling Task Manager is overkill.
-
he's disabling task scheduler, not task manager, but I imagine that was just a typo.
I cannot think of a reason it needs to be enabled, myself.
-
Yes, I meant Task Scheduler
-
I got it, there was an updater that kept saying it wanted it. Once I got that disabled then Task Scheduler went by the roadside.
I just like being in control of what runs and when.
