There are some girls in my old school who are slightly computer-savvy (compared to almost everyone else who knows less than nothing) but can't really picture themselves on a computer forum surrounded by guys who are older (by quite far in some cases). They prefer face-to-face interaction.

I must admit that I didn't know much about computers till I came to CH one day, cause my pc was infected....I've learned a lot from CH.
I came to CH almost 2 years back, I'm not always here but I try to visit whenever I can, It's actually very funny, when I first came I posted for 3 months and then didn't return for 6 months, then came back for a month and left for another 4 months, then came back for some months and again left for a looooooooooooong time and now recently I came back after 4 months, and it's funny cause everytime there are new members, we old members have opinions about them and then when I go again and come back newer members are here and the ones who were new last time have opinions about the latest ones!!! ;D
...for me CH is the most useful site on the internet.
I remember first time someone on CH asked me what browser are you using, I said yahoo LOL!! I've come a long way , Now I know my OS is windows lol....seriously when I asked my best friend recently whats your OS, she said what's that?? Hehe....me and my friends were the queens in high school, but now we are all parted and all going on our separate ways!! My bestfriend is a model , actually the Face of a leading fashion brand out here! We had all decided such careers for ourselves, I was supposed to be a professional singer but I decided to go for college first .....I'm planning to go to new Zealand this winter(it will be summer there), to meet up with a friend of mine who is a professional classical singer, and hopefully I'll have my record out by 2011, right now I'm trying to complete my First year in bachelors of Multimedia, then I will take a break for singing ,hopefully this winter.
But what is shocking that one of our friends is a COMPUTER ENGINEER!!! Dude she was always the smarter one!
So this time the break will be a much longer one, I actually miss the ComputerHope community more than the forum, it's strange but This forum actually has some amazing members!!! I'm all respect for all of ya!!!

That's a great message Ivy, like you I came on here with about.... no knowledge of computers. I can now say that I know more than I once did. I've met some truly intelligent people on here and some not of course.
It's the diversity I love the fact that we can all throw something new into a topic and learn from each other. I have made some (friends) in here and love it when I help someone and they come back to you personally to help them again. Gives me a sense of achievement.
It's not a detached site either Nathan is always about offering support and guidance when needed and we twitter and facebook each other, so he's not someone who's sat in an office somewhere casting judgement behind a facade of I'm better than you attitude. I love how we all get to know each others attitudes and can judge what someone will do or say. I for one have never seen or heard of a better forum.
Back on-topic though I can't answer that question except may be Women don't really want to learn about computers. It's social conditioning may be??

Could be true, cause from where I come from, it's considered very special if a girl/woman has knowledge about computers, in fact it's like a rage these days out here, everyone wants to be a geek lol....even on the phone instead of actually laughing we say things like 'lol' , omg etc...it's more popular with the teenagers though....everyone has his/her own blog etc etc.....everyone is tech savvy.

same here, except most of them are savvy with Apple computers instead so there seems to be a barrier of what were talking about, but still i think its just word hasn't gone around as much with all of us in high school/college than it does for the older people.

Its a matter of intrest, though my sister is surronded by things I understand she dont want to hastle with it wether its hard or something along those lines. If she needs it she'll learn it more or like I. I dont like shopping for clothes all the time or some that are got for me, but if I spent maybe two days out of the whole year I wouldnt mind. If it was only me.

The answer is yes Harry, there are other girls and lots of other girls on the forum, but they only take help, that's why they are not noticed, but there are quiet a few who are noticed as well, One that I know has taken a break cause her new work office doesn't allow her to browse sites.
I hope that answers your question, lets not drag this topic also into a long useless rant, cause then it won't make this topic any different from the off-topics.

Applies to a good lot of the regular people. Thats why, there is just supposebly a decrease an personal I dont see to many girls in my college that want to learn the stuff.
