what could cause this problem.
prossesor: amd athlon x64 dual
mobo: ecs
memory:2 G
os: windows xp home edition
model: custom built machine

well by reading your ...description.
could be a loose wire in your computer power plug, touch it and it disconnects(brothers computer does that)
could be a power supply problem
could be a heat problem and shutoff...without the blue screen
could be a faulty shutdown switch.
does this happen out of the blue? or does it happen when you bring up the usage, such as games

Possible problems:
1. Loose wire (Check power cord).
2. Virus infection - Try Kaspersky's online virus scan: http://usa.kaspersky.com/downloads/free-virus-scanner.php
3. Defective power supply may be a possible problem.

computer still shuts down recently updated the ram and got windows vista install clean install. when ever useage goes up the computer shuts down freezes or blue screens me. only happens when i use media like games music or watch tv online not an overheating issue come stays below 60 degrees c. power supply tested and works fine. vista shows me this after bluescreen:

Come? ( ? ? ? ) Which temperature stays below 60 C? (That is HOT for an AMD Athlon x64 cpu!)
