Title: Installing Server 2008 on VMWare Workstation 6.5.2
Post by: tgp1994 on August 13, 2009, 11:05:16 PM
Well, I would normally post on the VMWare forums, but no one is helping there, so I hope you guys can here.

So I've acquired Server 2008 off of dreamspark, and now I'm trying to install it into VMWare Workstation 6.5.2. Installation seemed to be working fine, up until it said it couldn't find any mass storage device drivers that work for what I had. So all I'm really asking is if anyone can point me to where I can point Server 2008's installation to find the proper drivers. P.S. I tried mounting the windows.iso VMware cd, browsing to the SCSI driver, but that does not seem to work.

Thanks!

Here's some more info:

    * Exact VMWare Version: 6.5.2 build-156735
    * Host OS: Windows XP Home SP3 (32 bit)
    * Guest OS: Windows Server 2008 (Attempting to install Standard full) at build 26710 (I think)
    * Problem happens all the time
    * Attempting to install triggers the problem

If you're using SATA drives you may need the drivers for it.

Well, I fixed it by now. VMWare doesn't emulate sata, at least to my knowledge, but the problem was it was using a SCSI SAS driver, rather than a regular SCSI driver. So all I had to do was add a virtual machine the custom way.
