Ive been having problems recently with my desktop in that it has been randomly capitalizing my typed text. This alone is very annoying but it isn"t a stand alone problem, since whenever this happens I also have several other annoying bugs:
_inability to send messages via msn
_ UNaBLe TO point and cliCK TO SELECT a SIngLE File/FOLDER as multipe file/folders will be selected with one click and similarly large blocks of text will be highlighted with a single click.
_ ClIckIng On A Link tHAt wouLd CAUSe A NEW pAge TO Open in the Current broWser window wiLL NOw CaUse A New window to PoP UP
I've ran several virus/malware scans using AVG, Spybot S&D and CCleaner which I run regularly and that has not seemed to fix anything so I don't think that this is a virus problem
It was hard to even type this short post with minimal errors. I've noticed that these problems won't start up immediately when I begin using my desktop but after an hour or so of typing If i restart it will still bE PREseNt AfterWArd. I"D really appreciate some kind of help as this is very frustrating
-
Did you make any hardware or software changes right before this started?
-
No I dont think ive made any significant changes to any hardware software for a while
-
Have you tried doing a system restore to before the problem started?
When was the last time you blew the dust out of your computer with a can of compressed air?
-
turn the computer off
unplug keyboard and mouse
plug them back in turn computer back on
and have you hot pluged PS/2 ?
i hope not
overheating is doubtful to cause that but download speedfan and report the temps

- No, I've never system restored, I don't really know what point I would have to go back to before this problem started. I don't think I could anyway, since I use CCleaner and evidently that deletes your System Restore points?
- It's been a really long time, evidently. I opened up my tower and blew it out and it was just insanely dusty. I was shocked. I did my keyboard and mouse while I was at it as well.

- I unplugged everything, when I disconnected my tower to clean it out.
- I didn't know what 'hotplugging' meant so I had to look it up. Plugging in your keyboard after starting Windows? No, it's always plugged in and I've never really yanked it out/plugged it in without shutting down first.
- Okay, I installed SpeedFan. I'll post the main readings:
GPU: 55C
Temp1: 40C
Temp2: 48C
HD0: 33C
Temp 1: 48C
Core: 55C
Ambient: 0C
It's probably worth noting that GPU and Core both had a flame icon next to the temperature readout.
-
only 2 things left i can think of is
driver or some kind of teaseing malware
-
Have you cleaned your keyboard (http://www.computerhope.com/cleaning.htm#09)?
-
Yeah, I cleaned out the keyboard when I was doing the tower. The keyboard was also fairly disgusting. I'm going to feel really stupid if this incredibly irritating problem was a result of me not cleaning out my comp. : u
So far, no problems after the cleaning, but they probably wouldn't of shown up by now even if they were still present. I should know by tonight, after it's been actively running and I've been typing for a while.
-
You may have a faulty switch on one of your shift keys. If it's still a problem try a new keyboard.
Let us know though.

Run sfc /scannow.......read through the website so you under stand the procedure.....sounds like there are a few necessary files missing or corrupted....Have your XP disk at hand.....

Could be.....but assume nothing......a check of system files won't hurt.

Absolutely. That's what trouble shooting is all about.
-
One of the first things I did was try using a new keyboard, but the problem persisted, so I don't think that it would be a faulty switch.
I'm not going to have time tonight, but tomorrow afternoon I'll run sfc/scannow, and then post up what the results are.
Thank you for all of the help so far.
-
Just remember the space between sfc and the slash....
-
Alright, so I ran System File Checker, after copying my i386 folder into the C directory since I don't have my XP CD on hand. It ran, and after it was finished, it didn't bring up any additional windows. So I guess there weren't any complications and it replaced any missing or corrupt files?
-
That would be my best assumption...still no change?
-
Not yet. Still have to give it some time though. It showed up late last night, and wasn't as bad as usual. So maybe that's a good sign? I don't know, I'd expect it to be resolved completely rather than just toned down, if I actually did something that would fix it.
I'll wait and see if it's alright tonight. I've also been checking SpeedFan out every once in a while. After's it been running for a bit, GPU, Core and Temp1 all raise to a point where the 'fire' icon appears, at around 59C. Maybe overheating does have something to do with it, after it's been actively running for a while.

I don't trust AVG and Spybot to do the job like they did in the past, would you mind running the 3 programs here ...
http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html
and post your logs for steps 3,4 and 6 in the spyware forum........
something doesn't smell right.......
-
This could be a simple vbs file that causes the problem. SendKeys!
The solution: find the RIGHT file and delete it (I do stress, finding the wrong one could affect programs running in your computer). Try posting the contents of any .vbs or .wsh file you find.
-
Would just using the search feature and looking for .vbs and .wsh files suffice?
& okay, I'll go through those and post the logs in the Spyare/Virus forum.
