Exactly how far does the system boot? You said it's okay until Windows starts, but the screen you describe sounds like it isn't even making it to Windows. Do you actually see the Windows desktop start to load? Please be specific.

Do you have your XP CD ? ?
If so boot to it and select the first R option...this will take you to the recovery console...
After it finishes loading at the command prompt type in fixboot and hit Enter...
Remove the CD and re-boot.
If the above does not work repeat the process except at the prompt type in fixmbr and hit Enter...
Again remove the CD and re-boot.
Good Luck.

Go back to the recovery console and run chkdsk /r - it will take a while to finish - let it run its course. If that doesn't do it then we'll need to do a repair installation (we'll walk you through it if we need to do it).

yeah it just take a short time, partition C is actually set only 12 GB, my friend suggest it, i don't know it's a good idea or not but he did it. my hard disk was set to 3 partition, first partition which contain windows only 12 GB, and the rest divided into 2 partition.
Now what should I do? ???

Repair install. Boot to the XP CD and this time choose the SECOND repair option, allowing XP to install on top of itself.

I boot with windows cd, there are 3 options:
*Set up windows xp
*repair using recovery console
*quit set up

so I should choose "set up windows XP" right?

I done repair install, but after 100% copying files there is an error, I restart the computer then it say:
Windows could not start because of an error in the software
Please report this problem as:
load needed DLLs for kernel.

Did you do the repair install with the same version of Windows (home / pro) and service pack as was already installed?

yes is the same cd that install windows xp in my computer

That error is generated when the Hal.dll and Ntoskrnl.exe files are mismatched, but a repair install is supposed to fix the problem (unless the installed version differs from the repair install version). The only thing I can suggest is redoing the repair install. Sorry.

Can you tell me what the blue screen error message is?
Title: Re: Windows Start but only showing cursor
Post by: chr1sde4d on August 22, 2009, 03:01:26 PM
It say:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

If this the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your software manufacturer for any updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select safe mode.

Technical Information:

*** stop: 0x00000050 (0xD00C0000, 0x00000000, 0x809121DF, 0x00000000)

Here's what MS (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329293) says about that particular stop code.  With a fix.

I tried to do the fix, but thing is I can't even go to safe mode, I press F8 when my computer start up, and a menu shows up to choose boot device, then I press ESC, but after that the same message as before came up:

load needed DLLs for kernel

I can't go into Windows

Well, the only things left are to download a memory diagnostic utility on another computer and then run it on this one and then do a format and reinstall of the OS if the ram passes the test. I'm sorry, but I don't know what else to suggest. The repair install should have fixed your problem.

I would also delete/merge some partitions...12G is not alot of breathing room for an XP install as time goes on.

I'd go a minimum of 20 at least...

Will I lost my data?
If yes, is there a way to save it?
Title: Re: Windows Start but only showing cursor
Post by: Allan on August 23, 2009, 09:36:17 AM
Yes, you will lose your data. You can try slaving the drive on a different computer to see if you can access your data from there. I'm really sorry - I was certain we'd be able to get you back in with the Repair Install.

can I just install new windows xp to my computer and then uninstall the broken windows xp?
If can, how to uninstall the broken windows xp?
Title: Re: Windows Start but only showing cursor

I thought of a parallel install, but I don't know if your system drive is large enough. If you have room to install the OS anywhere on your system go ahead and try.

I have more than enough space in the drive to install another windows
now, how can I uninstall the broken windows xp?
Title: Re: Windows Start but only showing cursor
Post by: Allan on August 23, 2009, 11:03:36 AM
Don't uninstall it. Do what we call a parallel install - install a second instance of XP then grab the files you need from the drive and copy them to an off disk medium. Then you can reformat and start from scratch, which you really need to do.

Please be more clear on what your goal for this machine is...
You're bouncing around and trying to get this done yesterday....this normally does not produce good results...

How did you backup ? ?
Title: Re: Windows Start but only showing cursor
Post by: Allan on August 23, 2009, 12:01:56 PM
You saved it to something other than your hard drive, right? Let's assume so.

Boot to your XP CD and start the install process. Choose C: Drive as the destination and you'll be offered the option to format first. Take that option.

you wouldnt lose much if you only formated the 12gb partition

you wouldnt lose much if you only formated the 12gb partition

Depending on where the OP stores the documents, then a lot could be lost.  Some documents are important.

i find usuly when somone puts there os on a small partition
they keep there important data nd programs on there larger one
because otherwise you would fill up the 12gigs in no time

Never assume that.  Always start at the beginning and work from there.
