Title: Recovery console / Administrator password
Post by: McGuire on August 23, 2009, 02:28:25 PM
I'm attempting to repair Windows XP by booting from the CD and accessing the recovery console.  However, when I'm prompted to enter the Administrator Password, it says it's incorrect.  I rebooted normally and removed the password alltogether but then when I tried booting from the CD again, it still asked for a password and didn't work.  Thoughts?

Press enter without a password.

If you still have access to Windows...

Go Start>Run
Type in:
regedit
Click OK.
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Setup\RecoveryConsole
Set the DWORD SecurityLevel value to 1
Restart computer.

Thanks Broni, that bypassed the password prompt alltogether.
