Basically, my windows xp malfunctioned today when i got home from school. I started it up normally and the login screen froze and hanged. I rebooted and a blue screen appeared listing an error. After searching I saw that the error had to do with boot volumes. After managing to get my computer to boot from a cd i decided to use the windows vista cd i had. I formatted my hard drive and tried to use it to install. An error came up saying Failed to create a new partition on the selected unused space. After reading more I used diskpart to clean my hard disk. It changed the hard disk to Unallocated Space. I tried to create a new partition and it wouldnt create it. Right now I'm doing the diskpart clean all (which i heard takes awhile). This all happened after I installed Panda Global Protection 2009. I read something about partition tables being destroyed and I needed a manufacture cd. Is this the case or is there another solution.

You need to boot to the Vista CD to manage partitions and then install the OS - you cannot start the process from within Windows. Is that what you are doing (it doesn't sound like it).

I'm starting from boot.
Further Info: Hard Drive is DELL Part# HY281
Computer- Dell Optiplex 755

You need to delete you old partition and then create a new one. Follow this order:
1. Delete partitions
2. Create a new partition
3. Format your partition

I already deleted the partition and windows vista setup will not allow me to create a new one.

Fixed. What I did: Diskpart-> Clean then Clean All again, restart, reset boot order to default, then, i was able to install windows again.
