Hi there!
I want to enable hibernating but I am unable to do it. Only the monitor hibernation is available but the option to hibernate the system is not there in the control panel. I updated the BIOS and I tried the following in the command prompt:
--------------------------------------
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001]
Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:\Users\User>powercfg /hibernate on
Hibernation failed with the following error: The request is not supported.
The following items are preventing hibernation on this system.
There are one or more legacy drivers installed:
Gem98
C:\Users\User>
-----------------------------------
My PC specs are:
Intel Pentium 4 630
Intel D945GNT (MB)
3GB DDR2 memory
DVD Burner & CD drive
300GB SATA hard drive
Windows Vista Ultimate
How do we disable the Gem98 driver or make the system hibernate or save power?
-
I kow this doesn't answer your question but you are better off not using hibernate. Just set your hd and display to power down after a defined period of inactivity.
-
while u were using disc cleanup did u delete the hibernation files cause that could be your problem

Huh?
-
My computer->right click (c:) drive-> go to properties-> click disc cleanup->
and it gives the option to delete hibernation files but it cautions this because there not recoverable
-
That would have nothing to do with enabling or disabling hibernation.
-
but what if he did delete these files wont he no longer be able enable hibernation?
-
That only deletes the hiberfil.sys file in the root of c: drive. It has nothing to do with enabling or disabling hibernation.
-
ok thanks for the info, I stand corrected
-
This is a problem with the Gem98.sys file, not the hiberfil.sys file.
It's only my guess

Has he tried running sfc /scannow from a command prompt ? ?
All windows updates in place ? ?
