Title: How to play The Sims 2 PC DVD ROM on my PC?

I've recently bought The Sims 2 PC DVD-ROM. I inserted the DVD in the drive and tried opening it from the G: drive. It gives me 3 options: 1. Sims Colelction 2. The Sims : Superstar 3. The Sims 2. I clicked on 'Sims Collection' and installed the game. After that when I try to play the game from the shortcut created on desktop it gives me an error saying 'It has come to our attention that you have installed another Sims expansion pack after the Sims Vacation. For this to work properly, the The Sims Vacation installer will now update your nstallation. Select OK to proceed.' When I click on 'OK' nothing happens. Please help. This is the first time I'm trying to play a game on my PC. I'm using windows XP. Please help.

What Sims software was installed on the computer before you tried to install this collection?

I did not install any Sims software before installing the Sims collection. If there are any software's to be installed, please let me know.

No problem - I was just trying to make sure there wasn't another attempt to install Sims software at an earlier time.  Let's see...is Sims Vacation part of the "Collection" software?

how do I check whether Sims Vacation is a part of the collection software or not. I just have one DVD and while I autorun it gives only 3 options 1. Sims Collection 2. The Sims : Superstar 3. The Sims 2. Also it has options Crack and Exit at the right bottom. I've clicked on Sims collection and it automatically installs the game. After that when I click on the desktop shortcut it gives me the same error which I mentioned earlier.

I tried to look on line today, but I'm restricted from seeing game related sites by a firewall.  Does the box say what games are part of the original collection?

You might try uninstalling and reinstalling the software.

The box doesn't say any such thing as what is part of its collection. And I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game. I get the same error again. Please help. Am I doing something wrong. Do I have to use the crack file or something.

No, no -- we don't advise that sort of thing, around here!   :) 

Let me look around a bit when I get to where I have an unrestricted access to the Internet.  It does not make sense that, having bought a legitimate copy of the game, they would require you to have another portion of the game in order to have it install.
