Title: windows 98 opens shows error message then starts and freezes

my sister is using windows 98.  When she logs on to windows she receives the following message: error C:/real mode/OAK CD ROM. sys error in config.sys file on line 4 device c.  windows then opens/start and freezes shortly after. Can anyone tell a rookie how to remedy this situation. Thanks!

Disconnect CD-ROM and see what happens.

Open up computer and unplug it.

Copy and past both the autoexec.bat and config.sys files...

Ah. Look for any DEVICEHIGH=/D:MSCD001 lines in your Config.sys.

Because who knows! they might still be working on the problem 6 months later.
