my sister is using windows 98. When she logs on to windows she receives the following message: error C:/real mode/OAK CD ROM. sys error in config.sys file on line 4 device c. windows then opens/start and freezes shortly after. Can anyone tell a rookie how to remedy this situation. Thanks!

Disconnect CD-ROM and see what happens.

thanks for the answer regarding the freezing windows 98. As for disconnecting the CD ROM, how is this done? Said we were rookies.
Open up computer and unplug it.

Copy and past both the autoexec.bat and config.sys files...

Ah. Look for any DEVICEHIGH=/D:MSCD001 lines in your Config.sys.
