Title: Virus claimed pc salvagable?
Post by: 1BAD4DR on October 21, 2009, 05:57:17 PM
Hi All

Looking for help with my parents old computer. They recently got a virus that I believe got into the MBR causing it to reboot over and over everytime it goes to load windows. I downloaded a trial of "partition recovery" and booted from a burned cd. I didnt realize that the program is completely useless unless you pay for it. Anyway, after i ran it, exited the program and it came up with the a:/ prompt. I shut it down and restarted it and now i've got no video to the monitor. (side note: I've been using my monitor, not the one typically hooked up to this) The processor is an Athlon 1.7 I believe and it has no onboard video output. It is running off of some ATI card. Is there anything that can be done? Or is it scrap?

Do you get any image on the screen at all? Is the CD still in the drive?
