Title: HP ZE2000 2 beeps on boot
Post by: Jollibee on October 27, 2009, 02:30:42 AM
Hi All,

I was given a HP ZE2000, it won't boot properly, the Caps and Num lock both flashes and then it beeps twice, the screen shows a short message "Press F1 to Resume, Press F2 for Setup" then it locks up, it doesn't do anything when I press any of the keys.

I have tried to replace the memory one at a time and even used a similar memory from another notebook to no avail, not able to test a different hard drive as I don't have one handy at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The specs are:

HP ZE2000
AMD Sempron 1.6 Ghz
Win XP Home
512 Ram - 2 sticks
40 GB hd

A 2 beep code on an HP machine is a power supply failure.

Try this. Remove the battery, and then plug into the wall and see if it starts. If it works fine, you need a new battery.

If not, the power adapter or something internal on the board power system is gone. That can run you $130 to $300, in repairs if your warranty has expired.

Thanks Griff!

I removed the battery and used the AC adapter, the computer then gives the "Press F1 to Resume, Press F2 for Setup" and gets locked there. I also get the same message when I use just the battery.

Does this sound like I need a new mother board for this notebook?

Yes, it does, but they cost more money than it's worth.  Sell the whole thing for parts.
