I am adding a secong pre used hard drive so i will have 2 but one thats already on the pc is sata and the used one that i am adding is ide I checked and i have 2 cd roms on the ide but i do have a slot for another ide I tried it but still seems to go to the used hard drive is there any other way or if done correctly??????

Please state a bit clearer what you want to accomplish with this setup...
For example if the IDE came from another machine and has Windows on it ( XP or newer ) you will have a heck of a time getting it to boot...
-
actually i does have xp on the ide drive there is no way how about if i took out my sata drive (disconnect it) than use the one i want to put in temporarlily and format it is that ok? It will no affect the computer? I just want the second one as storage i did try it but keeps asking me for a activation key but still regardless ti seems to go to that one first which is set on slave

The BIOS should boot to your SATA by default...
Jumper the IDE as slave and it shouldn't attempt to boot it...
IDE connection:
MBoard========================Slave======Master.
Make sure it's slave and not cable select.
Then you can format the IDE using Disk Management:
Right clik My Computer...select Mange ...then Disk Management.

I think you mean it's now booting from the "used" IDE drive instead of the SATA drive.
Change boot order in BIOS.

I did check and also checked the setting on back of the used hard drive I can give you the bios boot order if you need it

Did you do any of this? ? or skip over it ? ?

yes i sware i did i will triple check it but am sure the used hard drive is set to slave but also i have 2 cd roms which are ide as well I let you know when i check it again

Remove both CDRoms on the secondary IDE channel ...
Re-boot a few times.
Hook the HDD up as illustrated jumpered as slave...
Post back with your results.

Ok than what if it does work???

1. The BIOS should boot to your SATA by default...
2. Jumper the IDE as slave and it shouldn't attempt to boot it.
3. Make sure it's slave and not cable select.
1. Not on one of mine, IDE's are 1st, SATA's are 2nd by default.
2. Master and Slave jumpering has no affect on booting. BIOS controls all.
3. Doesn't really matter, if using 80-conductor cable.
-
Sorry...
But i'll have to disagree on all 3.
-
well in any event i tr like the one person said to disconnest the cd drives and see what happens i will let you know
-
oh here is my boot priority 1st floppy,2nd cd rom,3rd hdd group that where it gets tricky even though i installed the 2nd hdd it in the group remember one is ata and the one i am added is ide;;;;;;;
1st slave which is the2nd hard drive 3rd is master in the cd group 2nd master and 2nd is slave thought that might help l;ol
-
You're making this more difficult than it is...remove all hard drives other than the boot drive...set the priority in the BIOS then add the others as slave drives.
-
I did all that lol
