Title: starts to load drivers and BSOD flashes
Post by: ThawnX on December 21, 2009, 09:14:00 AM
I have a laptop that got unplugged and dies last night .  XP with AMd processor.  tried to turn it on and it went to the "windows did not load sucessfully screen, tried all modes and it seems that it flashes the BSoD after the loading or during the loading of MUP.SYS driver and restarts and loops back to the windows did not load sucessfully screen.

Please help!

Boot to safemode and in Control Panel/System disable "auto-restart on errors..."
Re-boot and post the entire BSOD message including the gibberish...

How are you attempting safemode ? ?
F8 needs to be tapped repeatedly upon powerup and before you see the Win splash screen.

I got the BSod:

A problem has been detected & Windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.  If this screen appears again, follow the following steps:
check to make sure any new hardware or software is propertly installed.  If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problem continues, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.  Disable BIOS memory option such as Caching or shadowing.

If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer Press F8 to select Advanced Start up Options, and then select Safe Mode.

1.  System Changes.
     a.  Have you made any hardware or software changes recently?
     b.  Have you modified the BIOS settings recently?
     c.  Has your system clock been losing time or displaying wrong date-time-group?

2.  Boot hard drive.  Does it physically use IDE or SATA interface?

3.  Operating System.  What operating system and service pack level is Gateway system currently at; e.g. Windows XP Home Edition SP3?

4.  chkdsk.  On general principle, I would boot to Windows XP Recovery Console and execute the "chkdsk /p /r" command; in the hopes it would repair any file corruption.  Don't interrupt it, let it run to completion.  Then enter "exit" command to permit system to restart.

If that doesn't fix it, re-enter Recovery Console and execute the "fixboot" command, then "exit" to permit system to restart.

5.  Recovery Console.
     a.  You may download and create five (or is it six?) floppy disk volume set that will permit you to boot into recovery console.
     b.  You may download and "write" (not copy) bootable Recovery Console CD-R.
     c.  You may borrow a Windows XP setup CD.  Not sure what version or service pack level it must be.
