Okay yesterday my computer just manually restarted. I wasn't too worried because it always does that. Maybe I should have told my dad when it started doing that ? But then when it came on...it was like it had reinstalled Windows XP. Everything was new. I was really worried and then checked My Computer: C:\ Documents and Settings and then my name. THANKFULLY my documents were all still there! Then Windows Update told me it was because I didn't update my C:\Audio System that it might have done something like that. I wanted to fix my computer so I pressed *update* and then waited. When it restarted my old desktop was back, so was my other stuff BUT THEN MY DOCUMENTS WERE GONE. I searched everywhere, and even pressed system restore a lot. I don't know what happened but is there a way I can fix this, or are my documents (which are really important for me) lost forever? Basically all I care about are my documents =\. If you can help me..please do :( :'(

Can you not access your documents by going to
X:\Windows\Documents and Settings\user\My Documents?
-
Errm it says it cannot be found??
-
You will have to fill in X and user yourself as these will vary per user.
-
Right I did that for user, and if you mean changing X to C, I do have my pictures but insid the pictures there's nothing, like the computer just restarted..?
-
X may indeed be C yes.
If the files are not located there and you have searched through all folders, they are most likely removed. Certain system crashes can produce such effects.
You should always back up important data on seperate partitions/Hard Disk Drives.
What you can try is to use this (http://www.theabsolute.net/sware/dskinv.html) program. It might be able to recover the removed files. However, I can offer no quarantees.

Re-boot pc......
-
But I wouldn't be able to get my pics back would I?
-
Perhaps you would if you use the program that I recommended.
-
I tried using the program, but it didn't help me find my documents back. It gave me something like C:\Documents and Settings\Julia\TEMP\filenamehere.gif

Take the following steps
1. Start program
2. Click on any document you wish to retrieve
3. Press the undelete button.
If there are no documents shown in that list where you previously stored them. They're gone.
