Hi I have this computer running win 95. Anyway it has some great games on it but the os is currupted. the computer keeps scanning for errors and finds one every few seconds and won't boot up unless i go into safe mode. If i would reinstall win 95 or install 98 over it would i still have all my programs on start and my applicatons?

First See Here... (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=2&ved=0CA4QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsupport.microsoft.com%2Fkb%2F156126&ei=WSRjS4DfDJWuNtuH8fAG&usg=AFQjCNFW-Sk4HpcxdEMwRBCOxFZF_lt1Aw&sig2=5P2i4xcM-PLipnXZtXKv1w)
If no luck the method for re-installing Win95 and retaining everything is to boot to safe mode...
In the Root directory rename win.com to win.old.
Power down.
Re-boot to the Win95 and follow the install info.
NOTE: It's been awhile since i've done this so to be safe backup any critical data before proceeding.

Is your Windows 98 disk a full version or an upgrade? An upgrade disk should leave your programs installed in Windows if you actually install as an upgrade rather than a clean install.

what about a reagular disk no upgrade?
And if it won't work I can install win 95 again i have the original disk I shouldn't delete my files will it

Not sure why this didn't answer your question...

The only thing I can think of that would scan at startup is scandisk, and if it finds errors so often it might not just be the OS that is corrupted but the disk structure. the hard disk may even be failing.
