Today , when i turned on my computer, i started up fallout 3. After the first 2 - 5 minutes it starts to lag and keeps lagging every 3 minutes or so. i turned down the details to low and it still lags. is there any fix and why did it start lagging?
System specs:
Windows 7
nVidia Geforce 8600 GT 256mb
Quad Core 2.33ghz

Your graphics card is a little out dated. How long have you had it?
How much RAM is installed in this system?
It's never lagged like this before now?

before today it worked perfectly. yea i know its outdated but it can still run a majority of games that are out. i have 2 gb on my system.

You may want to run a scan with your AV and spyware programs.
If you do that and nothing pops up that should be taken as a threat, then go to the Nvidia website and make sure you have the latest drivers for the 8600 GT.
Also, 2GB of RAM is about the bare minimum your system should have with Windows 7. Might wanna think about adding 1 or 2 gigs.

I ran AVG antivirus and it found nothing. Actually , I took it off cause I thought it was causing me problems. I downloaded the latest drivers too. It just made it run little bit longer before lagging. I could add another gig but like i said, it ran perfectly well since the day i installed it. I have other games too and they run fine....

Are the other games you play just as demanding as Fallout 3, or are they less demanding? Some games can be picky about what video card is being used.
The processor shouldn't be causing issues. Neither should your 8600 GT. Have you checked to see if there are any new patches available for Fallout 3? It's worth a shot.

Ive ran my computer on max specs on both fallout 3 and left 4 dead. Fallout 3 lags a little more in some larger scale areas(i.e. mall, whitehouse, etc). For reference, my pc specs:
4 gigs ram
9700 nvidia geforce graphics card with 512 ram
dual core intel

Yea, I updated my drivers and installed the latest patch for fallout 3. I recently ran Assassin's Creed and it lags too. What do you think is the problem?
