Drive d is my CD/DVD drive. And yes, I installed Pinnacle 10, a movie maker. I can't uninstall it because the uninstall part is outdated.

I can't uninstall it because the uninstall part is outdated.

How do you mean? is it a 16-bit application?

you could try the free version of Revo Uninstaller to get rid of it: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

We nee to  some more details. You have been on the form of high and know the rules. You are supposed to give some detail in the first post.
We need to have some idea of what kind of computer you are using. We see it you are using Windows 7, is this the actual release of Windows 7 or was it a beta version?

Also what about your DVD drive? Is this the standard drive that came with your computer? Is it an external drive?

What other software do you have that would access the DVD drive?

Yes, sorry :-[. It is e-Machines ET1331G-03w Win 7 Home Premium 62 bit. 6 GB ram, 750 GB hard drive, original CD/DVD drive which I don't think anything else uses. Is that all?

Pinnacle 10 may have created a virtual drive...

Open My Computer...use the snipping tool to capture the area and post the screenshot so we can see what is going on...

PRINT SCREEN and the paste the image in mspaint. Save it and post it.
While you're doing that though, when you open Windows Explorer what drives does it list?

Does it work for you? Then it doesn't work for us either. After you've saved the image to your hd, post here by clicking on the button in the text editor that says: Insert Image

Sorry, my fault. I gave you the wrong info. Below the text box it says "Additional Options". Click on that then click on BROWSE and go to your image.

Pinnacle 10 doesn't work on windows 7. It only supports windows XP.

http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=232545&Hilite=Windows+7

therefore your upper and lower Optical drive "filter" drivers are now mangled.

Try the steps in the MSKB:

hummm. How come it installed?

In order to check to install programs usually only check of the windows version is Higher then the earliest version it works on. For example, if a program can run on Windows 2000 or later it might check that the major version is 5 or higher. If it needs XP it makes sure that the version is 5.1 or higher.

I see. there is only one problem in that link you posted. It says go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and find UpperFilters, but that folder doesn't contain that. The key two down does.

Post by: HELPHELP on February 24, 2010, 11:26:18 AM
I fixed it. It had it in there to look for LowerFilter if it did not contain UpperFilter.

Err..

those were the Windows Vista Instructions. you're on windows 7. you should have followed the windows 7 instructions. (via the "hardware and devices troubleshooter".

I fixed it. It had it in there to look for LowerFilter if it did not contain UpperFilter.

So can you see the drive now?

Excellent! Now just be more careful installing older programs, make sure they support Win7 (or at least Vista) :)
